I have had a look around and don't seem to have found a thread for this tour. I notice there are quite a few text updates coming in. I am stuck in work this morning so might get out to see the return later at Garswood or somewhere.

Any photos yet as it was quite a nice morning earlier?

    Thanks, Neil.

Thats right Neil, beautiful sunshine when I arrived at this spot near Garswood just after 7. Needless to say it clouded over before the Duchess came! Still from video with a few more shots to be uploaded tonight or tomorrow.

As already stated, clouded over before the train it was due, a shame really as this location was in full sun with no shadows - especially on 6233 & the first two coaches. [IMG]

Thanks for those, pity about the cloud. I looked at that location where Austin has posted his still from around 3 years ago for 6233 and ended up on Garswood platform next to Ralph instead!

    Thanks again, Neil.

Was running about 20 mins early coming off whalley viaduct in gloom & light drizzle. Coming out of Blackburn it was about 10 late behind a late running service to Blackpool - by this time, it was now very gloomy & heavy drizzle had set in.

Thanks for posting those John, I see we are back to the usual Lancashire summer weather now we have a hosepipe ban in place...

I didn't go out in the end with it being so murky.

    Neil.

Yes, Prescot and on a bridge!! LOL Actually its the bridge before Eccleston Park Station.

Talking of Eccleston Park Station, here is the return in gloomy light but manage to get an image though along with cropping the people on the platform. 6233 sounded nice though, cimbing up the bank from St Helens.

My video offering including shots this morning on the climb between St.Helens and Garswood and on the return climbing from Langho, finally in the steady drizzle at Hoghton Tower.

The Duchess at Appleby 24 July 2010

Today saw the first of RTC's summer Saturday Cumbrian Mountain Expresses, running out of Liverpool, with the Black Lady in charge. My resolve to go to Wigan at 8 am to see the outward run came to nothing when I overslept, and the journey to Appleby for the return run was dogged by delays on the M6. But I made it just a few minutes before the the arrival of Stanier 4-6-2 No 6233 Duchess of Sutherland, and with only a few visitors, was able to enjoy her presence 'up close and personal' during the water stop, beforte she tackled the southward climb to Ais Gill.
