Is it really that hard to plan steam on at say Preston and get the loco really warmed up for the climbs as well as giving better value to the customer?

Oh and watch out for the late running TPE...

Probably not difficult to plan it...but assuming the loco comes tender first from Carnforth with it's POB, it will have to run-round and then wait out of the way for the train to arrive. All of this would use water to a point a stop would be required somewhere to top up (note... this is a question not a statement)?

The path is often spoilt by as John says, the late running TPE, so starting at Preston would have to be immediately behind the xx.58 and get to Carlisle before the xx.46. Hard enough from Carnforth if everthing is on time, impossible if held for 10 minutes.

This CME isn't on PMR's list of tours for the Duchess. The first one on there now is 13th May. Anyone know for definite which loco is allocated for this one?

They don't exactly update the website regularly, so maybe it is running.

Unless 46233 is going to Carnforth for a tune up this Thursday I would say it's on the front !

Sorry to hear that, 46115 is the booked reserve engine, but it will be very interesting to what appears on RTT in the next few days if 46115 isnt capable of hauling the tour, most likily 46100 will come up from Crewe to cover, if its availible if the carnforth test run slots get activated i can see meltdown on this site :) whats the load on this tour?

Didn't 46100 go to Southall this week?
No reason to believe 46115 won't step in though.

An 8P would be more suitable.......

i suppose it depends on the tour loadings, if its been booked for an 8P, then anything less will mean either reducing the load, so less profit, or shovage, or a 47 coupled in behind the steam engine but theres a few weeks yet, so lets see what appears in steam at carnforth in the next week or so, and what pathes get activated,
If , and its a big if, the replacement was a certain black 8p, would those booked on this tour complain?
