I don't recall many day's like this in the Northern Hills or on the mainline in general. The Black Fives romping towards Horton were the standout performers for me and great to finish off the day with Britannia ! So, five steam locos, four steam tours and zero diesels, Incredible stuff ! I hope you enjoy :)

What hasn't been mentioned on the return from Carlisle was the multi stops we had to make, because of the various late running services caused by the previously mentioned problems at Garstang. We left Carlisle to time but were looped at Plumpton to allow a late running Pendolino pass, we then visited the Eden Valley loop, on the original plan, two more services went past, then on the Shap summit loop for one more to pass. A brisk run down Shap and equally brisk run up the Lune Valley to assembled gallery, hope someone has a video or pictures from there, to an on time arrival at Carnforth for loco change.

Must’ve been annoying for the crews Ralph to be stopped three times rather than the once as planned at Eden Valley. We spotted the pair at Plumpton but only managed a handheld shot that wasn’t worth using.

Being stopped several times would be irritating for the crews, but from a passengers point of view about 10 minutes at Plumpton, 8 at Eden Valley and 15 at Shap were better than 40 minutes looking out at the same view, with 10+ minutes between each passing service.
