    GWR Collett open brake third 650... The east side panelling is progressing well. Great Western (SVR) Association - Collett open brake Third 650 Restoration

    GWR Saloon 9103...Restoration of this vehicle has moved into its eighth year. She is now dry in the Carriage Shed. The door stops are back at Bewdley for painting. Good progress is being made on the first bogie. Most of the parts have now been disassembled, cleaned off and painted in primer and partially in black. Work is taking place on reaming the brake hanger bushes. GW(SVR)A - 9103 2011

    There are already two or three Mk 1s in full authentic BR(W) Choc & Cream Livery on the SVR though more would be welcome.

    Well, we already havetwo GWR rakes in chocolate and cream, so in the name of variety, why not leave the BR standards intheir current liveries?

    GWR Saloon 9103... The website has images of the finished wheelsets and first bogie, now fully painted and beginning to be re-assembled. The only painting remaining is the brake hanger links. Meanwhile work continues in Kidderminster shed fitting out the interior. © GW(SVR) Association. http://www.gw-svr-a.org.uk/9103_restoration_2011.html

    LNER Tourist Third Open 52255... http://www.svr-rollingstocktrust.org.uk/LNER/52255.html. This has been bought by SVR Rolling Stock Trust . The Trust put together a collection of donations which will all be able to have gift aid attached, and the deal has the blessing of the SVR(H) and (G) companies as neither board wants to lose a 64 seat vehicle from one of the most distinctive and popular trains on the line. Members of the LNER (SVR) Coach Fund have been particularly generous in their support for this initiative. Plans for upgrading the interior by producing luggage racks, coat hangers and mirrors were put in place. Chromed coat hangers already to hand are ready for installation. Castings for the long luggage racks are in stock awaiting polishing and machining, so this work will be ongoing throughout 2011, but installation will have to wait until all six racks are completed later in the year. This purchase has only been done by the Trust providing substantive temporary funding to secure the deal. Further donations are therefore still needed to offset this. Such donations can be gift aided, and for a Gift Aid form click here. Cheques, payable to SVR Rolling Stock Trust Co Ltd, and gift aid forms should go to the Trust’s Secretary, Stewart Clark, at 47 Talfourd Rd, London SE15 5NN, marking the envelope ‘52255’.

    GWR Full Brake No 1145... The Bewdley Station Shop, run by the LNER (SVR) Coach Fund on behalf of the Fund and the Station, was back in its rightful position alongside the car park, ready for the SVR’s full reopening on 26 March. This follows extensive track repairs and relaying in the station area. Doris and Sue will be pleased to receive your business. They have an extensive array including books, DVDs, jigsaws, dolls house furniture, mugs, coasters, PDSA key rings, postcards, model railway kits, sterling silver jewellery and greetings cards.http://www.lnersvrcoachfund.org.uk/index.html

    LMS 6 wheeled passenger Brake 2886... At Bridgnorth this 1932 short gangwayed brake progresses steadily. The doors are all in poor condition and all those with windows more so: there are six of this type and four blank ones which are not as bad. The Guard’s door on the current East side has been built up from a skeleton from long ago demolished corridor third 13045. Fortunately we have down at Kidderminster stores all of the doors salvaged from 33002 of 1940 build, previously stored at Didcot as a grounded body, which survived in better condition. The 1940 batch had wider doors than the 1932 original design, the plan is to dismantle one of these wide doors which we hope to re-work to the 1932 dimensions. Meanwhile the less damaged doors can be restored at Bridgnorth. Many of 2886’s bottom hinges had been cut through by an angle grinder during the time it was stored at Bewdley. Many of the sets of hinges have already been drilled and repinned to eliminate wear using those salvaged from 33002 to give us a head start. The North gangway is going together now and should be finished shortly. Again parts from 33002 have been used in preference to some of 2886’s which were in worse condition. Even these have been stored as patterns for possible future reference as we often get enquiries from other restorers who have no evidence to go on. Reproduction handrails for the ends and roof have been fabricated from the same gauge of steel, retrieved from a grounded bogie brake body, broken up at Wolverhampton Low Level about ten years ago. Much of the small ironwork at the ends is being installed. SVR Rolling Stock Trust

    LNER Restaurant Composite 7960... continues its steady progress at Kidderminster. The communication chord gear, vital for its return to traffic, has been completed during March. A block of wood on the sloping roof end that mounts the "tell-tale" mechanism was found to be rotten and unable to take screws securely. An acquaintance who is a hat block maker copied from a giant block of wood we had in the stores. SVR Guards have been assembling this apparatus, as a result their working knowledge of SVR trains has improved and the Rolling Stock Trust can claim this as part of its educational benefit credentials. This carriage is now ready for a full vacuum brake test to check that the emergency apparatus works correctly. Focus will now shift to the pantry area, where an extraction system has begun to be built up. Copies of LNER fan grilles covers have been ordered as part of a joint order with Great Central and North Yorkshire Moors-based Gresley owners. Delivery is expecting of 16 cupboard doors in various sizes, ordered by the late owner Phil James. Planning for provision of water and a means of heating and draining it is now in hand.

    Hawksworth GWR-design Auto Trailer Third W238... this 1954 built vehicle from the Dean Forest Railway (formerly at the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway where it carried the name "Charlotte") is visiting the SVR, presumably for some restoration work. D2960 was busy shunting at Bewdley on 19 May and for a short time W238 was close to the end of the platform, just right for a photo http://forum.svra.org.uk/viewtopic.php?p=28597#28597 (© copyright P. BR corridor second (SK) 25498... this SVR Rolling Stock Trust vehicle was red-carded in 2010 as a result of wheel flats, and was then due for a paintshop visit. ‘Sharpo’ has posted up an image of the painted vehicle here http://forum.svra.org.uk/viewtopic.php?p=29053#29053.

    LNER Pigeon Van 70759... On 12 July the body of this SVR Rolling Stock Trust vehicle was moved from its original heavily corroded underframe by the LNER Carriage Group. The body was rolled onto a recently acquired underframe (from LNER Pigeon Van 70442) refurbished by the group. The transfer, a 'first' on the SVR, was achieved in little over three hours to within a quarter inch accuracy (LNER (SVR) Coach Fund http://www.lnersvrcoachfund.org.uk/news_bites.html)

    LMS 6 wheeled passenger Brake 2886... No 1 side (currently the East), had its last side door rebuilt and hung. Materials for beading, door vents and the Guard’s sidelight were all purchased with a view to completing the exterior on this side by the end of October. Panel beating of the vents and side lamp is complete, with the parts now being painted on the bench prior to fitting. Dimensions came from a copy of an LMSR drawing supplied by the Bluebell Railway. All of No 1 side and both ends are now up to three coats of smooth maroon undercoat. Tongue and groove plank has been made to measure for LMS size and delivered so that the inside wall on No 1 side can be panelled in. Careful cutting and chamfering is being done by the Saturday volunteers. Brackets and fastenings for the roof irons were finished off by the Sunday men in September. A quote of £4200 for bespoke iron beading has been rejected in favour of making up our own composite aluminium beading from two sections for a mere £241. We now need to source dovetail section corrugated steel sheeting for the floors (SVR Rolling Stock Trust)
    LMS Open First 7511... This vehicle has been entered to the Heritage Railway Association coach of the year competition, and judgement is awaited! Apart from a split water pipe during the freezing weather last winter, it has worked faultlessly for two seasons on the Venture dining car service standing in for the crippled BR Mk1. It is due to shelter in the Kidderminster carriage shed for the winter (SVR Rolling Stock Trust).
    LNER Pigeon Van 70759... This vehicle being rebuilt at Bewdley has seen consolidation work going on following the successful bodyswap in the Summer. Work to create a new floor and watertight ends has been taking place. The decision to create a traditional strong planked floor, instead of a plywood floor whose life expectancy would not be as great, was taken despite the slightly greater cost and work involved. Plans for a bulk purchase of teak are being followed up and a bill for £10,000 may be expected. Donations towards this expense are welcome (SVR Rolling Stock Trust).
    LNER Restaurant Composite 7960... Progress centred on completing the gangway floorplates, including newly cast brass threshold bars and 2" of teak added to the bottom of both doors so that they reach the floor. These doors had come off an LNER pigeon van and were shorter than 7960’s originals. The tailor made stainless steel sink had arrived and was shown off before work on installing it began. A timber structure for this is being planned. This will carry teak cupboard doors to hide the gas, water and drains, also a glass storage cupboard. Work on the dresser that will face the sink from the opposite wall is well in hand, as several of the teak door kits were made up but not glued, and the veneered panel material arrived from our suppliers. A new recruit in the form of a retired patternmaker has added another highly skilled pair of hands to these aspects of the project (SVR Rolling Stock Trust).
    LNER Tourist Third Open 52255... All 42 cast aluminium luggage rack brackets provided by the LNER (SVR) Coach Fund have been polished, primed and painted in Kidderminster paintshop. New tube in two sizes arrived at the beginning of October to form the horizontal front and rear rails for the six long racks needed. These tubes were purchased using funds from the SVR Association raffle in aid of this coach, and once completed will be the first manifestation of expenditure under Trust ownership. It is planned that development and installation of these rack will continue over the winter shut-down period on the SVR, which will give time for the 86 feet of net to be made. The raffle raised in the region of £17,000 once all of the gift aid on the donations is added to the raffle proceeds; an exceptional result in difficult economic times (SVR Rolling Stock Trust Co Ltd)

    GWR Collett open brake third 650... © GW(SVR) Association. 650 is now back in the paintshop for a little more contract work on the floor and windows. The website has images down into the floor of the saloon with new cross members and gusset corners being installed before the floor is finally screwed down; the west side with the sliding windows and large side windows installed; and the painted underneath of the floorboards before fitting.

    GWR Collett open brake third 650... There has been good progress on 650 over the last month. The exterior has been painted in all over brown and the ends black ready to go outside in the New Year. The floor is down in the saloon, the Guard’s van and the Luggage van and is almost ready in the two toilets and the south end vestibules. The main frame has been cleaned and painted. Next they plan to begin on the interior of the Guards Van rebuilding the electrical cupboard. © GW(SVR) Association GW(SVR)A - Restoring Great Western Railway Rolling Stock

    SVR Rolling Stock Trust::News

    Work has been taking place at the same time on the Trust's* LNER Restaurant Kitchen Composite, 7960 at the hands of its regular volunteer team. Sink waste pipework for the pantry has been commenced, with a view to being able to let water out, before we try to fill the tanks and test the water supply to the new boiler, just in case there are any problems. Panelling out of the kitchen walls has begun, and the layout of kitchen equipment and services is now on our minds. Other finishing off works in the passenger saloon includes attention to the window drain channels.
