The East Lancashire Railway will showcase two Scottish steam locomotives in late November. This is the last steam event before the winter Santa Season commences and is therefore, the last oppertunity to ride behind these two magnificant engines without a 'Santa' train. 45407 will star as fellow 5' 45487 alongside visiting locomotive 61994. This event is hoped to be a good weekend with plenty of haulage available for these two locomotives and plentiful photography oppertunities as these loco's will be the only engines out on this weekend. The link for this event is below:

Missed opportunity? What with No.15 being scottish too...

Would've been interested with an industrial in action, less keen for normal timetable with 2 locos which are regular performers both on the ELR and around the country anyway...

In support of the ELR however, the original plan for this day was to run 61994 and 71000, due to circumstances this had to be cancelled, my point being that the plan was for 2 engines, and has been replaced by a similar day.

Suits me. Haven't seen 61994 in years so fingers crossed that the weather's good enough to justify a 400 miles round trip for some K4 action.

We can't run in the spare path on the Sunday, as we are playing host to group visit from the Branch Line Society, who will be travelling around the railway. We have toyed with the idea of using a third locomotive, but if we do it is more likely to be the Jinty, as WPR 15 is due to have some maintenance work done I believe.

The idea behind the Scottish event is to hold a replacement event for the Three Cylinder event, which couldn't take place because of over-running repairs to 71000. Our grateful thanks to both John Cameron and Ian Riley for the use of their locomotive over the weekend.

    Regards

    Andy Coward
    General Manager, ELR.

Smokebox facing South (Heywood). 61994 facing North (Rawtenstall). Nice opportunity when they pass at Bury or Ramsbottom.

Would like to go next weekend but I made a last minute trip to the ELR on the 14th behind 5407 in typical Lancashire weather, so I'll give this event a miss and see what they have in store for the January Gala.

    correction

    Hi, just a small correction...

WPR stands for Wemyss Private Railway.

I was hoping that WPR 15 would be running on the Scottish Weekend but looks like that will not be.

    Thanks
    Jim

It is unfortunate that 3 'scottish theme trains' can't run this weekend but above is why...

The naff weather kept me in "sunny" East Anglia endorsing the products of the Wolf and Buntingford breweries. :D
