There is pretty much zero rain in the forecast for Cumbria this week up until Saturday. I think the only hope is Saturday looks like a total washout at the moment. The 7 days of heavy rain Cumbria had last week seemed to make no difference sadly. Though I heard while there was a lot of rain in Cumbria, Lancashire had little.

Met office forecast for Saturday is slowly improving, 50% light rain as of 7.00pm tonight, against 80% heavy rain on yesterdays forward cast. Tempting the rain gods I think!

Surelt it's going to need more like a week of rain before the ban will be lifted. An odd day won't make any impact.

Maybe not in general terms, but surely it would on the day in question!

I agree. Plus an end to continuous 25 degrees plus in the forecast. But reading the Fellsman and Waverley threads, I think there's a good chance the locos will be allowed to work at least over the S and C and an outside chance the diesel will be on the back rather than the front. I realise that will not satisfy the pure steam folks but I reckon there will be conversations with Control on Friday and Saturday.

    I do.

Having just got off the fire-risk conference call, the status remains 'high' on LNW(N); it was therefore agreed that all three trains over the S&C on Saturday will have diesel assistance, with the diesel positioned immediately behind the steam loco.

Unfortunately, as one should realise, the weather has little respect for the significance of the date.

Thanks for the hard facts - again. Not what any of us would have wanted, but facts do beat what we often get on here.

Hope it's not being pushed by an EWS liveried 66.

I've deliberated over this for a few days and have decided that I will go on the trip as planned and will treat it as a day out through some lovely scenery (albeit likely to be in the pouring rain) whilst listening to the sound of an A4 chime whistle and, hopefully, meeting some new friends with common interests. Yes, the assisted steam is a disappointment but the GE will not be alone in this; the other trips that day will also be diesel assisted. I'll have the opportunity to see two Jubilees around Appleby, as well as the A4 of course, and to see 3 mainline steam locos out and about on the same day is a first for me.

Well as it's a DBC job, should think that's exactly what it will be?

Better than if it is a DBC livery one though as most of the EWS ones seem quite dull now.

It would be interesting to know what the status of west of England is as they have had a fair amount of rain over the past couple of weeks.

East coast around Newcastle is greening up nicely. My Golf Course that was badly burnt up is now back to its former glory.

Lineside looks decent as well, in the couple of places I have passed over the past week.

If anybody says ECML, north of York, is at risk, frankly they are taking the ****.
