We may not be truly South West in Dorset but is is seriously dry in Purbeck. Ballard Down was set on fire by a distress flare from a boat last night that led to the Lifeboat being called out as the Fire Service could not really access it properly. The Swanage Railway has had a number of lineside fires and my front garden, and even more so the park between my house and the railway looks like it has suffered an earthquake from all the deep cracks. One day of heavy rain, now 10 days ago achieved bugger all.

I don't think DBC "do" diesels on back (other than sometimes on Surrey Hills pullman) do they? If there's one on the train then it will always be behind or in front:eek: of the steam loco.

Seeing as the train from Bristol avoids Carlisle it is unlikely the diesel will change position for the S & C

MET office is certainly looking a lot more optimistic than the BBC. I usually favour MET office forecasts over the BBC since they switched to Meteogroup. Still a few days to go, so plenty fo time for it to all change again!

It's extremely dry to the west of Bristol. The met office forecast a small amount of rain for the next few days and then gradually warming up again.

Not good news for the 19th I'm afraid. <BJ>

The DL on the rear of the Surrey Hills is for ETH when there isn't a generator car available. The loco which assists out of Victoria is normally dropped off at Grosvenor Bridge Jn.

    Cheers, Neil

Pathfinder "unexpectedly" have Standard Class seats available on the Golden Express tomorrow, if anyone is interested. I suspect it will be from cancellations due to the show pony steam.

Just checked with Pathfinder, and they do have about half a dozen seats in standard, so it would appear that contrary to the experts, they have not had 'loads' of cancellations, and if they have, then there are still those who are quite willing to travel whatever the haulage.

Ironically we had Clan Line through West Byfleet today, with diesel assistance because of fire risk, in torrential rain dark skies and thunderstorm.
