    The 76cm gauge Waldviertel Railway is based in Gmund.

    From the station two branches run, one south to Gross Gerungs (43km), the other north to Litschau (25km). The regional public transport authority (NOVOG) operates trains to Gross Gerungs May - October inclusive, and to Litschau June - September inclusive. Most use diesel railcars. Steam or diesel locos haul nostalgia trains to Gross Gerungs on Saturdays and to Litschau on Sundays.

    Separately, there is a branch off the line to Litschau which is operated by enthusiasts, also using diesels.
