I have uploaded two albums taken last month during a wonderful tour organised by the Rly Touring Co. They feature locos built in the earliest and last days of Indian steam.

The first records a private charter at Chennai (formerly Madras) behind what is arguably the oldest working steam loco in the world - East Indian Rlys 2-2-2WT No 21 Express. It was built in 1855 in Leeds by Kitson, Thompson & Hewitson along with its better known sister, EIR No 22 Fairy Queen, which also survives in working order:

The second album records 1965 WP/1 Pacific 7161 leaving Delhi Cantonment station for Alwar with Indian Railways' Steam Express. In all, 755 of these highly successful Pacifics were built between 1947 and 1967, of which 743 were still in service in 1981. Some worked until the end of broad gauge steam in 1995:

    Cheers for now
