    Gala 7th to 9th March 2014
Network Rail have advised that the A4 Sir Nigel Gresley will not be permitted to use the Norwich to Sheringham Line due to weight restrictions. This information has been given to us at a very late stage when the formal route permissions had already been issued. The North Norfolk Railway is devastated at this news as it has strived to bring this Iconic locomotive to the Railway for sometime. The owners of the Locomotive are likewise extremely disappointed as will be all the visitors planning to see the Locomotive during its visit. All the paperwork had been provided to Network Rail as requested at the end of 2013 and all appeared to have been cleared for the operation this late decision is extremely disappointing and damaging to the Railways reputation. We hope that everyone still attends the Gala which will feature all our based loco’s including the newly returned to service George Stephenson Black five and the Standard 4 76084.

No I do not currently volunteer
Pitty the NNR never replied to my email about a terrible volunteer, now that is truly damaging to the railway's reputation.

    Errr......in front of a computer?
Could anyone explain why all this seemed such a shock when the Norwich to Sheringham line was RA6 in the Sectional Appendix 7 years ago? Is it merely that Network Rail never noticed? As I read it (I may well be wrong and will happily be corrected), the line concerned hasn't (ever?) been RA9 for quite some time?

According to an article in Heritage Railway dispensation has been given in the past for a number of locos above RA6 to visit the railway : - 70013, 70000, 60163, 34067, 9466, 45305, 45407 & 777.
70013 visted last October on a mainline charter.

In fact not much of the national rail network is higher than RA8 so A4s need dispensation to go to many places !
