    PRESS RELEASE

THE MID-NORFOLK RAILWAY IS THE HERITAGE RAILWAY OF THE YEAR 2013

The winner of the Heritage Railway of the Year Award 2013, sponsored by Ian Allan Publishing has been announced as the Mid-Norfolk Railway. The announcement was made at the prestigious National Railway Heritage Awards ceremony yesterday (4th December) in London. Mr Lloyd Grossman OBE FSA and TV celebrity presented the winning plaque to Mid-Norfolk Railway Chairman, Barry Woodgett and the railway' s Operations Manager, George Saville (pictured below after the presentation)

The MNR has won the award for the on-going development of the line and services. This year has seen a number of exciting developments at the Mid-Norfolk Railway, which helped the railway win this award. The visit at the start of this year of a High Speed Train, running from London St Pancras to Dereham and Hoe, marked the reopening of the first section of line towards North Elmham and County School stations. This follows on from the railway winning the Modern Traction Award last year, for the authentic reproduction of the 1970s/80s British Railways era. Other special events this year have included the 2013 steam and diesel galas, Santa specials and the reopening of the line to Hoe with the MNR now becoming one of the longest heritage railways in the UK.

Chairman of the Mid-Norfolk Railway Barry Woodgett said “I am absolutely delighted that the Mid-Norfolk Railway has won this prestigious award. It is a reflection of the dedication and hard work of the Mid-Norfolk Railway’s volunteers that we have collected this award, which is not just for one item but a culmination of moving the railway forward to reach this stage. It will further establish the Mid-Norfolk Railway as a valuable attraction in the area as the railway continues to move forward and develop its reputation as a preserved railway.”
