Locomotion - the NRM at Shildon will have its annual diesel gala on 18/19 April

Visitors will be: 55 022 Royal Scots Grey, courtesy of Martin Walker and team
D1023 Western Fusilier & Class 37 D6700 thanks to my colleagues at the NRM and NYMR
These three will be on static display with cab access and make occasional demonstration line runs during the days - all are of course subject to availability and being fit to travel over network Rail to Shildon.

Passenger services will be run by 03 090 and brake van, maybe Dutch Gronk 663 and certainly Leyland Railbus demonstrator RB004 thanks to Bob Bailey and the Telford Steam Railway.

Thanks too to James Shuttleworth and all at West Coast Railway Company for their kind assistance.

Also on display outside with cab access (weather permitting) will be DELTIC, whilst inside the building will be models, societies and trade stands.

All this for NOWT, though there is a small charge for train rides. 10am to 5pm both days, do come and bring your friends.

    Thanks
    Anthony

I'll definantly come down for this. Chance to cab Deltic is too good to miss.

Does anyone know if 73139 is likely to be out on the Weardale on either or both days please? It makes it an even more worthwhile trip for all concerned if it is..!

Got to say,the cost in running this event, transporting in a railbus by road and a convoy be rail would have been better spent in buying the parts required to repair 55002.

By hold means have a diesel day with 03,NS663 and DELTIC outside. But why when the NRM is so short of cash(due to a certain apple green thing),spend what I assume is £thousands bringing exhibits to a free event?

Much as it would be good to see KOYLI going again, imagine how Anthony would feel if his (probably tiny) events budget was mopped up for this or that restoration or overhaul at York. Anthony has shown a knack of doing the maximum with the minimum means at Shildon. He should be supported.

The money comes from a different pot and people like to come to see something diferent and working, not just static. Two days and counting - and I've just come back from a week and a half in Wales on the TR. RB004 due tomorrow, and the diesel convoy later in the day.

    Come and see!

BTW - contrary to popular belief/opinion, the NRM is NOT short of cash due to 4472. That's just one of many projects...

Is there going to be any modern traction at the event - i.e. any guests from the DBS / Freightliner / DRS stables? A chance to have a cab visit of a modern passenger loco (a 221 or similar) might also be a nice addition, I expect a lot of the general public would like a chance to see what is behind the grey door in Coach F...

Sadly nowt from the TOCs. Many were approached, but all are scaling back in the current economic climate and apologised but couldn't send anything. Don't think I didn't try...sorry!

All power to your elbow for another successful event this weekend Anthony.

I am hoping to get up on Sunday, is there any indication as to what will be working the passenger shuttles when please? A quick spin on the Weardale (if the 73 is out) is tempting but I don't want to miss anything of interest at Shildon.

PS If you want a smaller railbus next time then take a look to the right >>>>> ;-)

I am sorry to announce that due to administrative difficulties, we are unable to offer rides on RB004, however it will be making demonstration runs without passengers - passenger services will be in the hands of the 03 and 663 (if the latter's batteries can be sorted in time).

Apologies for the lateness of this announcement, hope you'll still come and see us.

    Thanks
    Anthony

    Anthony,

If the problem with RB004 is RVAR related you could always offer free rides.. ;-)

Best wishes for a good event anyway
