A new event at Llan for 2014. The Winter Warmer gala. Looking like it will be a mixed traffic event, featuring intensive running, Passenger and Freight trains, and the final gala event (or running days) at Llan for 44806. Further Information and timetables will be available soon.

I thought I was doing well posting this, until I realised i've got the date wrong on the title! The event is actually Saturday and Sunday the 4th and 5th of January!

Home fleet currently availible for traffic are 3802, 7822, 44806 and 80072. Diesel side D5310 is availible.

So most probably all of the above, unless any of our hire fleet return home for winter maintainance and are fit for traffic.

Any more news on which locomotives are going to be used. As 7822 is out with boiler repairs will there be another loco or will it just be those 4?

A few more details about the event.:

    • Timetable is due shortly (hopefully this side of xmas!) Working timetable has been issued to operating departments, so as soon as the office have jazzed it up a little bit, it'll be on here.
    • Last chance to see and ride behind 44806 on a gala (and more than likely any service at Llangollen)
    • First train of the day 0900 from Llangollen and from Carrog.
    • Trains operating to Plas Bonwm farm. (last time for this as well, as the other mile and a bit will be open for the April gala, and every operating day after 1st March (TBC on that one))
    • Timetable designed to provide maximum opportunity for passengers to change trains (Deeside will be shut)
    • Demonstration freight train, including night freight on Saturday.
    • 44806 hauling the Saturday evening beer train (Beer available all weekend also), 80072 will be out with the Subs in the evening as well, so plenty of activity even when it goes dark.
    • A rare chance to ride behind our resident class 26 - D5310 in the winter months.
    • Steam locos in operation are: 3802, 80072 and of course 44806.
Sounds pretty good all of that doesn't it! Apart from the fact I'm driving the 26 on the evening freight, and we get back to Llan about 10 minutes after the evening beer train leaves.

Are the subs running throughout the day or just in the evening? I'm very tempted to go to this gala, would be good if a timetable was put up even if its just a basic train times very soon.

Subs will be out all day. MatthewCarty has beaten me to it with the timetable. Both are on their respective event pages on the website.

72 is back, but is not in a position to be used. Think it's having a little bit of maintenance done.

It looks like there is a longer layover at Carrog before it heads to Bonwm, so at a guess I'd presume 3802 runs round, D5310 on the front takes it to Bonwm and the 3802 hauls it back dropping the diesel at Carrog?

The working timetable is quite a difficult one to transfer to an easily readable one (for those non enthusiast sort of people looking to attend the event). There is a freight on Saturday evening hauled by the class 26 (I'm driving it).

As for the 3802 morning trips, there is a loco swap around prior to the train going down the extension.

Sunday will be the last day of use for 44806 at Llangollen, a sad day for many of us...

Any idea what the policy will be changing trains? There are quite a lot of fairly tight "connections" at Llangollen, Glynyfrdwy and Carrog and it's not really the time of year to be hanging around at cold stations - it is the "Winter Warmer" gala after all.

Also, on a similar note - has the Class 26 diesel got steam heat, or will set S be without hear for a couple of hours while it works from Carrog to Llangollen and back between 13.00 and 15.00?
