Little ‘n’ large for the Severn Valley gala

    A BR Brunswick green ‘9F’ completes the line up for the Severn Valley Railway’s Spring Steam Gala on March 17-19 – which also includes, at the other end of the motive power spectrum, ex-Port Talbot Railway 0-6-0ST No. 813.

    Loughborough-based ‘9F’ No. 92214 is the third and final visiting engine confirmed for the gala. It will be running alongside Ivatt ‘2MT’ 2-6-2T No. 41312, the BR lined black tank engine visiting courtesy of the Mid-Hants Railway. No. 41312 is making its first visit to the SVR for over 16 years.

    The other guest engine is recently overhauled ‘Battle of Britain’ No. 34081 92 Squadron, visiting courtesy of the Nene Valley Railway and the Battle of Britain Locomotive Society. The ‘Spam Can’ will be running alongside rebuilt classmate and SVR resident, ‘West Country’ No. 34027 Taw Valley.

    No. 34081 will be fresh from running alongside another SVR-based Bulleid – ‘BB’ No. 34053 Sir Keith Park – which is due to appear at the NVR’s ‘Bulleid 50’ event on February 25/26 and will also be running at the SVR’s Spring Steam Gala.

    Also in attendance will be other members from the Severn Valley fleet: ‘14XX’ No. 1450, ‘15XX’ No. 1501, ‘28XX’ No. 2857, recently overhauled ‘57XX’ No. 7714, ‘Manors’ Nos. 7802 Bradley Manor and 7812 Erlestoke Manor, and Ivatt ‘Flying Pig’ No. 43106.
