THE WINTER STEAM GALA SHOULD SEE THE DEBUT OF BRITISH RAILWAYS STANDARD CLASS 4 NO. 75078*

Having successfully completed a ‘mainline’ passenger ‘turn’ on Saturday 24th January, the locomotive is now just a whisker away from a full return to service, in time to make its debut at the Winter Steam Gala in unlined BR black with the early BR emblem on the tender.

Following the success of the Autumn Steam Spectacular, this Gala will again be a home fleet affair.

Other home fleet locomotives in use will be

    • SR West Country Class No.34092 ‘City of Wells’
    • Midland 4F 0-6-0 No. 43924
    • WD 2-8-0 No. 90733
    • USATC 2-8-0 “Big Jim” No.5820
    • LNWR 0-6-2T ‘Coal Tank’ No. 1054 (Courtesy of Bahamas Loco society)
    • Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0T No. 1704 Nunlow (Courtesy of Bahamas Loco Society)
    • Manning Wardle 0-6-0ST ‘Sir Berkeley’ (Courtesy of Vintage Carriages Trust) at the head of Ingrow – Keighley shuttles
Note: LMS 5MT 4-6-0 45305, as originally advertised, will no longer be available for this event.

Oh, fart. I was looking forward to my first non-ruined-by-a-derailed-duff 9 loco gala at the KWVR. The black 5 would also have gone well with the Somerset and Dorset line-up. Still, I'm looking forward to this a lot.

S160's and Coal Tanks were common on the S&D then ? ;)

An S160 did haul an LCGB tour from Bath Green Park to Evercreech Junction... No. It didn't!

I had a heck of a blast behind Sir B piloting the pug in like 2000 or something.

Hmmm. No S&D double-headers on the Saturday. That's kind of what I was going for but there we go.
    P. S. Please don't kick off about this comment. I'm still going but I am entitled to an opinion as a member and a holder of a lineside pass. Even if I weren't, what's the point of this forum otherwise. I shouldn't really have to say this.

Is there really a need to have an S&D theme for an event every time a 4F and West Country are in the same lineup? Just saying...

Be nice to see the S&D left alone for a bit, especially as 2016 will have several occurrences no doubt being 50 Years since closure.

It was more the inclusion of a standard 4 4-6-0, which S&D fans have been crying out for. I must say I wanted to see it pilot the WC rather than the WD but, as lil bear said, perhaps it would be nice to leave that till 2016.

Oh. Sod it. I'll just go on the Sunday morning photo charter. It's only £25.

4F and 4MT on 11.05 is probably the closest. Anyway, double heading 6 coach trains up there is pretty pointless, yet half full line workings over the weekend have at least two locos on the train at some point. 90733 and 5820 together doesn't appeal in the slightest.

I can see why they're doing it. I can't see the point in 5820 or 1054 piloting the WC. I guess the lack of the elephant in the room double header is to get people to go on the charter and it's worked. I wasn't even going to go on the Sunday.

Great collection Chris, thank you for sharing. My favourite is 34092 and 90733 stabled along side each other.
I'm travelling up tomorrow and really looking forward to seeing a Class WD 2-8-0 Austerity in steam for the first time since the early 1960's.

Went for a meeting at Ingrow this afternoon, but what I saw looked great, especially the VCT stock behind the Coal Tank, really wish I'd had time for a trip
