Really would LOVE a "Welsh" theme.
Give "Big Jim" and 52044 a rest in the workshops. :D

S160s ran in Cymru so wouldn't be an issue.

From KWVR newsletter, guests are ‘Leander’, 45407 and 44871 - giving two Jubilees and three Black 5’s in use (alongside the other home locos)

I can't wait for this one! I wonder why Jim rarely gets used in galas. Is there any reason why 41241 isn't out?

Been said on Facebook winter maintenance. With 5x guests though, there won’t be much space for anything else in the timetable! KWVR isn’t exactly long (sadly).

Interesting that you say that. I have a feeling that it is lines of this length that will weather the coming economic storm far better than the longer lines like the NYMR, SVR and WSR to name but a few. Keighley's strength is that over the years it has concentrated on development rather than expansion as others have done. This should stand it in good stead in the uncertain future ahead.

Have to agree, It’s not necessarily the length it’s what you do with it that counts (Mrs 37268 likes to remind me of this every so often :()

In all seriousness the past few times my I’ve had my family over from Australia whilst Uncle Matt’s been happy to go all the way with the likes of 31466 or 40106, my brother and sister in law have been rather happy to have a little trip up to the Engine House with my Niece and Nephew.
For a family with small kids there’s most definitely a market for a shorter trips, or a longer journey with with a decent break in between at certain points.
In answer to your point though I’d say somewhere like Ingrow or Highley that encourages secondary spend can’t be a bad thing.

Whilst I agree wholeheartedly, it totally misses my original point in reference to there only being so much achievable operationally.

KWVR galas are basically a two-train service with a Northern shuttle slotted in around the run-round moves. They could have 8/10+ locos advertised, but all that would do is water down the number of runs each loco gets.

KWVR already has the accolade of being the second longest running standard gauge preserved railway, and I think their “business model” is one that will see them survive another 55 years. While some other railways will at least have to drastically alter their services or curtail the length of operation at worse close down completely.

KWVR doesn’t do anything more than it needs to do to achieve long term survival.
A few other railways could learn a thing or two about prioritising survival over pet projects and ego trips.

I have nothing to do with KWVR except for visiting a few times.

    Only three. :)
I think the Jubilee and Black 5 count as home fleet.
