Final visit for the group before heading back to Blighty, very last night was spent in Colditz Castle, the escape plan worked! Dollnitzbahn for another chartered train, Saxon Meyer to boot! Not sure if you got to the Fichtelberg, they are all marvellous and this one probably has the best working of the locos.

Lucky enough to have done in DDR days when it was a pukka freight railway.

Fichtelberg has a DDR week around Dresden time, coaches having old livery instead of the F signage, attracts German enthusiasts. Car chasing easy to numerous shots.
Cranzahl has historic ambience from being a busy change station.

Pressnitz at Johstadt/Steinbach can be fitted in with care, weekends only as preserved, volunteer run, nice rural restoration along valley, not hard worked though.

Pop over nearby border for cheaper fuel and spirits, very much aimed at German market.

You will no doubt remember the line using 'rollwagon' back in the 1980s to transport standard gauge wagons. In 1976 I managed to grab a furtive shot of Russian soldiers, apparently on punishment duties, unloading a coal wagon with their bare hands!

Indeed I do. Didn’t see the Red Army though.
