For a few years now, Darlington Council have been planning to redevelop the current Head of Steam (aka Darlington Railway Museum). No doubt Covid has contributed to the delay. Looks like they are finally made a start on the build.

I was informed last year that they would be closed for the duration, but looking at their own website (https://www.head-of-steam.co.uk/) it seems to be business as usual. The only mention of anything happening is the twitter feed displayed on their website
"We are delighted to announce that work has officially started on construction of Darlington’s Railway Heritage Quarter due to open in 2024! The project is being supported by £20m of funding from the Tees Valley Mayor and Combined Authority."
