Does anyone know any more about this project? The last news on the website was in January

    Cheers Gavin

About to pressure test the boiler per their friendly stand at the KS reopening event at August BH, website not a priority.

That surprises me. I'm aware that this newbuild has been largely funded by a few wealthy businessmen rather than a large trust such as is behind Tornado or 82045 but I would have thought that 'spreading the word', using arguably the most effective tool for doing so in this day and age, would still be a priority so as to engender good will and interest amongst the heritage railway community as a whole. Then again, a shock rollout of a fully completed loco would be a wonderful surprise...

Me too. I have the Peter Handford EP "G5s on the Push and Pull." Will be amazing to more or less repeat those recordings some 50 years or more later.

I think the fact that they don't need to use the internet is another way of gaining interest; look at the amount of threads on here that have mentioned Carnforth overhauls over the time the forum's been active. It will soon get people's attention when its complete, and if you don't need the publicity to try to keep that donation stream coming in, it makes far more sense to spend your time actually building the engine IMO.

It is a wholly different business model than the vast majority of other railway projects.

The G5 is going mainline, and has a support vehicle to take to other railways.
