Anybody with experience of swapping commonwealth bogies for BR 1 type ? This is proposed as the commonwealth bogies are worn out but there is a stock of BR1 type available.

No experience with your problem but might be interested in obtaining a couple of BR 1 bogies if you have spare

you might have to change some of the brake pull rods as are some commonwealth over head pull lever type, whilst i'm sure B1 are slung under levers with balancing levers ?

Commonwealths are indeed overpull brakes, B1 bogies built before the mid late 50s were underpull (GWR style) but then they realised the error of their ways and changed to overpulls. At the same time sliding band vacuum cylinders changed to rolling ring.

In answer to the OP as long as you are changing over to overpull B1s the only other consideration is that you will need to swap the centre castings (keeping matching pairs)

The cranked crossbeam fitted could also be of the wrong type.
