Boiler information required for Alice class quarry Hunslet

    Hi,

Can anyone supply the following information about Alice class Hunslet boilers:

    Boiler barrel diameter
    Number of tubes
    Diameter of tubes

A drawing would be even better if anybody has one that they would be willing to share.

    Thanks in advance,

    Dan

There is an Alice class boiler on display in the quarry museum at Llanberis. I'm sure they would let you measure it if asked. For drawings I'd try Statfold Barn. The only drawing I have is a G.A.for No1 aka Lady Joan. Hope this helps. Ray.

Cheers, might have to try something like that.

Have emailed Henry at Statfold and am awaiting his reply

There is also a sectioned quarry Hunslet boiler in the museum on the WHHR which could also be measured, although you will have to be quick as we close for winter this coming weekend.

Some info from the Cliff Thomas' book.

Firebox heating surface 14 sq ft
Heating surfec tubes 86 sq ft

The drawing looks to show 28 or 30 tubes. Some details in the text point to the tube dia. as being 1 15/16" dia. The boiler diameter is around 3' but I can not find an exact measurement. Some earlier versions seem to have had 33 tubes.
