The Friends of the Kirklees Light Railway have now formally announced the line-up for the 7th annual gala weekend on the Kirklees Light Railway. The event takes place on the 8th & 9th September, with the theme for this year’s gala, is "Bendy Engines"! A gathering of the 15" gauge articulated locomotives!

The stars of this year’s event are:-

Bush Mills Railway Garratt & Ursuala from our friends at the Perrygrove Railway
Lady Wakefield & Synolda from our friends at the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway

There will be supported by Hawk, Owl, Fox, Jay & Tram engine.

(All locomotives are subject to availability)

That gives us a Garratt, Kitson - Meyer, Hiesler, a flexible axle and a Bo - Bo locomotive! - You don't even get this much flexibility in the Top Left Hand Corner of Wales!

There will be an intensive timetable featuring full line passenger trains and shorter shuttle trains. Multi articulated headers will also feature as well as the legendary last train on the Sunday, the “Shelley or Bust”!!!

For fans of road steam we will have the splendid Mclaren Steam Roller which is based in Yorkshire which will be taking part in the classic and vintage vehicle display. This display is an eclectic mix of vehicles ranging mini's (the finest car ever produced) to tractors and stationary engines.

In addition to the trains, David Joy the founding editor of ”Narrow Gauge World” has just completed a book entitled "Engines That Bend". Not only will David’s book be on sale at the railway over the weekend, but David will also be undertaking book signings on Saturday 8th September at 11:00-11:45 and 13:30-14:15.

For a first this year it will be possible to buy tickets at a discounted rate in advance of the event. This can be done by telephone 01484 865727.

The advance prices are as follows:-

    Adult Return - £7.00

The Lady Wakefield and Synolda arrived on Thursday and all 4 visiting locos have been out on test trains. And the Garrett has proved itself to be capable of taking 6 coaches to Shelley on the Kirklees long continuous climb!

The gala is certainly shaping up to be a great weekend!

Hope you have a busy and trouble free weekend. Keep those engines lubricated, as well as the drivers. It's hot on the footplate of the Garratt!

I wonder how easy it is to Drive Ursula. It must be more straight forward than Fox or Badger, and Fox was the First Steam engine i drove a couple of Years ago.
