    Hi Everyone

We can announce that our 2013 Steam Gala will take place on Saturday March 16th and Sunday March 17th at the Battlefield Line - Shackerstone. Following the success of the September 2012 gala featuring Black 5 No45379, the railway is taking things one step further.

Our headline locomotive for the 2013 Gala will be a fantastic piece of Southern heritage:

    LSWR 4-4-0 No30120 Class T9 Greyhound -
This National Railway Museum locomotive comes to us by kind courtesy of the Bodmin & Wenford Railway in Cornwall & NRM.

This gala is your chance to see a Greyhound a long way from home, on a Midland Railway in the Midlands!

Keep your eyes open for further updates as they happen, including participating home-based engines (tbc).

    Thanks alot guys! :becky:

    Hi guys

The Battlefield Line is proud to announce the SECOND visiting steam locomotive for this gala, to take place over the weekend of March 16th/17th 2013.

She is none other than another LSWR gem! Joining the National Collection's T9 4-4-0 No30120 will be:

LSWR 2-4-0 Beattie Well Tank No30585 - This lovely locomotive comes to us by kind courtesy of Quainton Road - the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre.

This gala just became unmissable! Don't miss your chance to see two LSWR beauties a long way from home! Keep your eyes peeled for more updates as they occur. The two LSWR engines will no doubt be supplemented by home based locomotives (tbc).

    Thanks alot guys! :D

Will we see full line running of the beattie double headed and on a freight? :)

I have already seen them both but birmingham is not too far from shackerstone

Bus service at all for the gala?

If so that would be great and you may have another person in for the gala!

As other members have rightly pointed out there is a Bus Service to Market Bosworth, on the Saturday at least I believe. Best checking online really. You can then walk to Market Bosworth Station where you will be able to catch our intensive timetable of steam train services in either direction, to either Shenton or Shackerstone.

We cannot promise as yet what the timetable will bring as it is all in the planning but rest assured that this will be a gala to remember on the Battlefield Line, bringing Southern engines that little bit closer to Midland territory!

3803 left the Battlefield Line today bound for the GCR Winter Gala, and then back to Devon. Its been an amazing 2 years with her but unfortunately the SDR needs her back and so she has gone. We hope you will still join us for what promises to be an exciting weekend in Leicestershire.

Hi guys. We will be releasing two engines from the home-based fleet for the 2013 Steam Gala. So, starring alongside T9 No30120 and Beattie WT No30585 will be:
    * Peckett "Sir Gomer" No1859 (our version of a Pocket-Rocket!)
"Sir Gomer" was built in 1932 and worked at Mountain Ash Colliery, being retired in the early 1980s
    * Aveling & Porter unique rail single No9449 "The Blue Circle" (Shackerstone Station Pilot)
This unique and unusual locomotive worked for Blue Circle Cement and is a popular little performer!

Please do not miss this fabulous chance to see two LSWR beauties a LONG WAY from home! The addition of "Sir Gomer" & "Blue Circle" gives us a four engine line-up for what promises to be a brilliant weekend. Look out for passenger trains and freight trains on the old A & NJR metals. :)

    NEWS-FLASH!

    * We hope to do some typical SHUNTING DEMONSTRATIONS in the North End Yard at Shackerstone Station - utilising 30585 and probably "Sir Gomer" as well, during the weekend
    * There will be a FREIGHT TRAIN in action on both days!

    THIS JUST GOT MORE INTERESTING!!

Will it be possible to ride behind Sir Gomer and Blue Circle please? Brake vans at Shackerstone would do!
