4492 with single tender and 11 coaches on today heading over top of Parkstone Bank at 0815 - steady and sure climb today - light was glorious when she came down with empties at 0648 across Poole Park with sun just up but duller now DH

    I've heard the same.

It amazes me that these locos used to go from London to Edinburgh on one tender but can't make Poole to Bristol....

Thought the coal level looked a bit low when they went up through Parkstone earlier but did not get a clear view of level as was stood to one side of the bridge - Hope there is a supply laid on at Bristol DH

About 55 minutes down running through Limpley Stoke Valley - hopefully there'll be enough time to source coal at Barton Hill for the return journey!

Oh dear. Just what main line steam doesn't need.

Talking of main line steam, although off topic there is quite a big write up about the 30777 fire incident in the latest SR. Compensation figures of £1m are being talked about.

Report from South West Rail Gen suggesting that the coal lorry failed to turn up at Poole. Words fail me. <BJ>

Ensemble 50 late into Bristol. TBEL team apparently searching Barton Hill tenement blocks for coal.
Possibly a later departure for the return? <BJ>

Lots of disappointed faces at Bristol TM! Going to Dundas Aqueduct for the return pics. Hope they've sourced the coal, or I'll have a disappointed look too!

That's why I said off topic, just talking about main line steam in general. Have also posted a bit more detail in the 30777/70013 lineside fire thread.

Nobody can be relied on these days can they? Glad we are not in a war situation or a life saving drug delivery to a hospital. Who's head is going to roll for this?

Really saddens me to keep on and on hearing of the various problems lately. usual answer in press on all matters is 'we'll learn from this' !!! WELL...why does everyone have to keep learning about a problem which simply CANNOT happen. Or Can It ?????????

A chance for some enterprising Bristol coal merchant person with some coal to spare to earn themselves some brownie points - and maybe a contract if they're lucky!

Sadly they never do learn from their mistakes - - whatever they do learn is obviously in one ear and out the other! - which is why they have to keep saying "we'll learn from this."
