After two years of extensive rebuilding on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway funded partly by grant money and partly by donations, the hard work has paid off. Andrew Barclay 0-4-0 Ferrybridge No.3 gained a boiler certificate today. There are still some minor adjustments to make, including the fitting of vacuum brakes and steam heating but it will not be long before this locomotive will be in passenger service for the first time ever (we believe it has never carried passengers before because it was an industrial). The railway intend to use the locomotive on passenger services up the 1 in 27 incline to Ravenstor, on brake van rides to Gorsey Bank and eventually on Footplate Experience Days.

One volunteer posted this video of the locomotive, in undercoat, doing a few runs up and down a short space of track in Wirksworth Yard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmP4m3l8kSc&feature=channel

I personally am not party to the rebuilding of the locomotive but of course it will have all of the necessary paperwork before it enters service.

I'm not certain whether it will need it, hence my question mark, but it must be a borderline case in the EVR's case and I'd get a bit of paper from HMRI to say it is or isn't necessary.

Excellent stuff. I've heard all about the progress on this loco as Bob Gibbens, who has been involved in the overhaul, is also at Foxfield. Looking forward to seeing it in action when we bring Bellerophon over in the summer.

With the two locomotives it promises to be a decent event.

1 in 27! That should sound good. Must get up there with my sound gear.

Looks good - I do like Barclays. Well done to all concerned. When is the gala - might make sure I am visiting the family in Chesterfield at the same time.

Will there be ballast trains on the quarry branch?

    Regards,

    David

The Quarry Branch is now a passenger line and there will be passenger trains on it, not freight. There will be two weekends of steam gala's beginning on Saturday 31st July.

Shame as freights always help make a good gala and a few ballast wagons behind an industrial look a lot better than MK1s.
