Anyone else heard the (currently totally unsubstantiated) rumour that 76079 might have been sold?

No but I find it incredibly hard to believe that he would sell her, without any prior warning to be honest!
I'm sure if Ian has sold the Pocket Rocket he will enlighten us but otherwise this the first I've heard!

It was, indeed, a quick message received only late yesterday afternoon from a friend on the editorial staff of one of the leading periodicals and who, I hasten to add, is usually totally reliable in his provision of information. If the Press are on to it - as clearly does appear to be the case - then I guess it's now only a matter of time before we shall know the facts ... if there are any.

It is confirmed that the loco has been sold. I understand (unconfirmed) that Mr Riley received an offer too good to refuse. I have no idea who the future owner is nor have I any idea if this news will impact on the seasons Cambrian trips.

Not unusual really - just normal commercial confidientiality.

Fair point, it is just that with something like this you would normally here it from Ian instead of as 'rumours'.

We will just have to wait and see the outcome of this...

If it was 'totally unsubstantiated;' why post it in the first instance?

If it so happens that in the next few weeks it becomes apparent that 76079 has indeed been sold as some incredibly well informed sources suggest then that little rebuttal is going to be seen in a different light

Another very well informed source stated categorically at 8.30pm yesterday that 76079 had not been sold. Whatever might happen in the future, the question was whether, as of yesterday morning, the loco had been sold. To which the answer is no.

I understand his intention is to wait and see what the rumour mill comes up with and then paint it what ever colour he sees fit, because its his engine !!!!!

Joshua, take my advice and give it a nice coat of white emulsion that way you will disappoint everybody.
After all you can't please all the people all of the time, but you can disappoint them all of the time. :-# :-# :-# :-#

Looks like it could be a cut-and-shut job - probably one of those 9F's on a shorter chassis.

If you strip it down, you should find its real number stamped on the components. 8-[
