I have just been told that 6435 has been confirmed to visit us this Christmas: It will arrive for the Santa Specials in late November and all December, making its final run on New Year's Day 2009 before heading back down south.

Loco is, of course, subject to availability, but should be in service on each operating day.

    Photocharters are a distinct possibility...

I think this is the second Pannier to visit Embsay ... but is this the furthest north a GWR engine has ever ventured?

Not by a long shot- some 16xx panniers were sent up to the North of Scotland to work the Mound to Dornoch Branch and were shedded at Helmsdale, for example. More recently Truro has visited the Strathspey and 'Hogwarts Hall' has been up to Mallaig/Fort William a few times.....

The Panniers that have visited Embsay are:

6430 twice and 1369 last year and now 6435, cant wait!

    Great engines!

even if a little out of place!

I saw it running yesterday, and quite liked it. Lovely little engine.

Yes, she's a little beauty; always was my favourite on Paignton and Dartmouth Rly. As she was only recently sold to Bodmin and Wenford Rly, I'm surprised that she has been sent away on hire so quickly.

Better than being sat in a shed not earning while the BWR needs only one engine or so for it's few operating days during the winter.

She's advertised on B&WR website as partaking in the Winter Steam Up on 27 and 28 December. Also two Beattie well tanks and no. 5552. Looks good to me!

Good question! I've been told (and seen the roster) that the agreement is that it returns after NYD - maybe that's supposed to be Boxing Day - I'll have to double check and let you know for certain!

Saw it make a couple of runs whilst lamping at Stoneacre Loop (all paraffin) on Sunday - doing well.

6435 is indeed staying at Embsay until New Year's Day where it will be running (along with Darfield if I remember the list?) This is of course subject to availability.

I can only assume it has been listed in error on their winter steam up, or maybe before the hire to us was agreed.

Otherwise we've been sent the wrong dates!

    Hope that helps!

BWR website now doesn't show 6435 as being at the steam gala after Christmas.

Is 6435 booked to run on Boxing Day please? Subject to the usual caveats obviously.

If the weather / roads are up to it, hope to be over for New Year's Day running.

Look forward to some haulage by both 6435 and Darfield. Maybe even some good weather [-o<

By the sounds of things yes. I was definately there, and did get in a conversation about all of the above with a group of you. You missed shot of the day btw. We dashed off quickly as I wanted to get to Stoneacre. Wow! When a get a spare moment I shall upload to youtube.

Special thanks to 6435 crew btw, as whenever they sighted a photographer they seemed to open up a little bit more giving off some great smoke effects in the process. Spot on. Also all the volunteers seemed really friendly and made you feel quite welcome, whether you were there just to watch or ride on the trains. Business looked good too for their efforts with a number of families tyravelling plus a fair few enthusiasts out for the 64.
