In view of the regular interest in and support of 6024 shown by many members of the National Preservation Forum, the Society will be posting occasional messages to provide advance guidance regarding 6024’s whereabouts, condition, movements and operations.

We will always use reasonable endeavours to ensure that the guidance is accurate, but with the familiar proviso that when unforeseen circumstances arise which cause unexpected late changes affecting the locomotive, we would strongly advise that members also check other sources to verify and confirm changes, as the Society will not always be in a position to immediately publish the up-to-date situation on the Forum or respond to queries.

The Society is currently in ongoing discussions regarding 6024’s Spring and Summer 2008 programme. A number of possible operations are in the early planning stage, but so far cannot be confirmed. Therefore, despite speculation published elsewhere it should not be assumed they will eventually take place.

The promoter and the Society are currently exploring the possibility of an alternative destination in South Wales for “The Pembroke Coast Express” on the 5th May 2008, rather than postpone this rail-tour.

It is extremely unlikely that the locomotive will be available to run on the 17th May. The “English Riviera Express” on the 24th May is confirmed. The locomotive will not be running to York and then Kings Cross on the 31st May.

It is expected that 6024 will feature on rail-tours to and from the far south-west in June and the Society also expects 6024 to operate the “Torbay Express” on a number of Sundays throughout July, August and early September.

6024 is also rostered to appear at the Severn Valley Railway’s Autumn Gala in September.

Just to let Forum members know that 6024 steamed satisfactorily yesterday at Didcot and later on did some gentle running-in on the demonstration line. Hopefully more of the same today.
