46115 is now almost complete. See pictures (taken in April) in the latest Railway Herald www.railwayherald.co.uk
Mainline test run expected within eight weeks. It looks as though the livery may be LMS lined black ?

Whatever it is, at least it'll be authentic.

Looks impressive enough as it is!

Wasn't it in LMS lined black befor eoverhaul, admittedly not seen the RH pics, but RM pic implies it hasn't been touched yet, and could be old livery!

Thats what i was thinking SYM, if they are still putting it back together whats the point in painting it until the last minute.

A couple of cladding sheets on the barrel have had fresh paint applied, but it's not really possible to tell whether it's green or black. In any case it may have been done some time ago, and could just be a base coat to build up the layers.

Can't say I really care, it's just nice to see the engine back in one piece after so long.

Looks like Mr Smith wants to keep us all guessing until the open day rolls around, can't blame him for that really as i guess he'd want maximum interest.

I'm sure it'll keep the enthusiasts happy either way, letting 6100 get on with being another 4472 for you all! (incidentally if the Bachmann model commission is anything to go by it will look handsome even if it isn't accurate, and bound to be a hit with Joe Public)

(By the way the books are open on how long it runs before crews demand the deflectors back on on Scotty!)

My moneys on 2 runs max, you don't fit smoke deflectors for fun.

If they do paint it Black then it'll be a while till we see a green royal scot since royal scot is coming out in red or at least that's what I've heard. If you look at the tender in the picture you will notice the paint is faded. Either way at least it's back now and will soon be on railtours near you so to speak.

Thank God! Im getting rather sick of seeing everything mainline in Green - 2 A4's, 2 Bulleids, DoG, several GWR halls and castles, Sir Lamiel and Oliver Cromwell too. Variety is the spice of life, after all.

It was indeed LMS lined black ( LNWR "blackberry black") before overhaul, because 46115 did as far as I recall carry that livery after rebuilding by the LMS in 1947. Much of what you see in these recent photos is the remains of the Dinting-applied black livery.

I hope therefore that we will see the loco in BR green for the first time in forty-odd years, but as ever, "owners perogative"!

I am sure Mr Smith will realise just what a draw steam haulage over the Settle & Carlisle will be with 46115 and 45699!

Absolute speculation but from the photo on the cover of Railway Magazine the fixing points for the numberplate look far enough apart for a five digit plate...........

What with royal scot coming out soon i wonder if both groups could get together and give us double headed royal scots. Now that would be something to see.

Also on the rumour mill about royal scot is that it will not have it's smoke deflectors as the group reckons they do little for the engine.

lol my point is that when there are opportunities for locos to be in a more distinctive livery, these should be taken with both hands. For example, repainting Bittern into the same livery as USA seems like a missed opportunity to show there is more to railway history than the 1950's and 60's.

Unless my eyes are faulty those newly painted bits of cladding on 46115 are brunswick green :-k

As regards 6100, I would go along with the 2 runs before the smoke deflectors are refitted, which will make last years Hornby limited edition even more inaccurate...!

    Regards,

    Dan

If you have £400k of your own to restore your wreck - then you can paint it any colour you like

    If you haven't - you can't
