Is anyone able to help date this photograph of 4498 southbound at Ais Gill? It is not my photo, but I've been given permission to include it here from owner.

4498 became 60007 in October 1994 and the presence of the modern lamp suggests it was no earlier than Summer 1993.

My best guess is it was taken in March or April 1994 based on the above timeframe and the apparent colours in the trees.

I have to date, not found any other photos online of 4498 with the "Cumbrian Mountain Limited" headboard, which I find most unusual as the weather conditions in the photo here look very favourable.

Check out 'six bells junction', you should be able to tie it down from there.

I couldn't find anything on Six Bells for it. The site is very useful, but by no means a concise or complete reference.

    Going to suggest 16/4/94.
Saw 4498 s/b twice in 94 - 0n 16/4 and 23/7, certainly not the latter as there was no headboard on that day at Mallerstang. The snow on Mallerstang suggests earlier in the year.
Will PM you with some details from my diary.

Thanks Scott. 16/4/94 certainly sounds like it could fit the bill.

Can't help with the date - but what a photograph! I suspect I need to lobby more strongly on the livery front next time around. Maybe no.7 with stainless steel could make a comeback...

Chris got the info from me based on Scott's reply in this thread Nige. Although he has added it as the 6th rather than the 16th! I would think it will be corrected soon...

Great, thank you very much Robin and a fine shot it is too. That's two for 16th April 1994 which seals it for me!

Scott pm'd me his photos at Howe & Co, Birkett and Dent and the Howe & Co shot didn't have the headboard, no doubt to do with not being able to fit it under the wires most likely at Carlisle with the lower bracket being occupied by the lamp.

Ok Ian, I also found a picture at Garsdale Station with that headboard on but no date, anyway I see you have another picture now so that has solved the issue regards nige.

Thanks Nige. I think this is the one you mean?

I think that is actually Garsdale judging by the cottages behind, so the description is most likely wrong.

There is a side on at Appleby here in Stuart's photostream:

Probably the same date, but can't be certain.

Thanks for finding this one though, the Garsdale shot will be the same date 16th April 1994.

Yes that's the one, I thought it was Garsdale because of the cottages and the end of the platform having no ramp, always happy to help.
