The Crewe Heritage Centre is holding a four day event Thursday-Sunday August 2nd-5th to celebrate 30 Years in preservation at the Centre of both the APT-P and the first Class 47 to be preserved - D1842/47192. For the first time since the early 1990s all the remaining APT-P vehicles are once more all together on one site. The second Power Car recently relocated from the former Electric Railway Museum in Coventry, and now transferred into Crewe Heritage Trust ownership by the National Railway Museum is currently receiving work to the exterior and a full repaint which it is hoped will be complete in time for this event.
As for the Centre's Class 47 D1842, this is currently receiving attention to the bodywork in preparation for a full repaint into original 2 tone Green with small yellow panels. Whilst it had been hoped to have this completed for this event, more work has been needed on replacement body work than first anticipated so the locomotive will be on display within the main exhibition hall in its current state of restoration.
In addition it is hoped to have some visiting freight locomotives from various TOCs as well as the Centre's regular locomotives plus model railway layouts and trade support from DJ Models and Kernow Model Rail Centre, who will have their sales stall present together with stalls from the Woodhead Railway Heritage Group, Class 504 Preservation Society, Telford Steam Railway, Ivatt Diesel Re-creation Society and others.
All the Centre's usual attractions will also be available.
