Just wondering out of interest how much a 2' gauge diesel would go for - just an ordinary RH or Hunslet 0-4-0 type, say prices for a restored one, a runner and one needing a resto. Only idle curiosity on my part.

Sadly the days of cheap locos out of industry are long gone. Expect to pay upwards of £2500 for a working-but-tatty Ruston or Simplex (if you can find one) and substantially more for the exotic and rarer makes.

£2,500 doesn't sound too bad, givern that you could spend about that much on a 5inch guage version.

The going price for a very tatty, but working 48DL is upwards of £8000 now....

I know of a very very tatty 48DL for sale for £2000 but it needs a new engine

Depends what you put in it really....you have to be careful though, you have to find an engine that matches the direction of rotation of the input shaft of the gearbox as this varies with different versions of the 48DL
