    Hi All

Can anyone confirm if the routing has changed on this tour,

Just seen some times stateing outward via Wakefield/Huddersfield/Standedge/Diggle to Chester & return via Hope valley route, is this now correct?

It looks like steam troughout as I read it so a bonus there. I asked last week if we could board in Sheffield as it was passing through. Not possible due to operating issue or similar words. Now makes sense !
Hope Tangmere's problems from last weekend ironed out before this run or will it be a black 5 on the tour ?

A plus for us Ralph, it'll be nice to see how it goes on up the hill from Huddersfield to Standedge. :thumb:

Yes I might have to venture over the hills to see that, with suitable disguise. Perhaps sneak onto Marsden station...

I will certainly be out for this, hopefully on the east side of Standedge and then a dash to somewhere on the moss, especially as I missed the test run and LE move.

Same here Ralph, I was going to do a trip along the Cheshire Lines for good photo spots. Obviously now it's out the window.
However, it now opens up spots at Helsby (Outward), and Warrington BQ (Return).

Re: 1z31 Tangmere to Chester 2nd April (Via Standedge now)?

Just been looking at the times and weighing up the opportunities, something doesn't look right. If there is a stop at Horbury for water why is it stopping again at such a short distance at Ashton/u/L, a lot of which is down hill? Ashton is a small single centre platform "bus stop" station, there is an overbridge at the East end, poor access unless there's a hydrant. The stated time of 10.33/10.59 for the stop is tight, the previous service train having left at 10.26 and next one due at 11.05. I wonder if this should have been Stalybrige used more often in the past?

I'm not certian that the Ashton under Lyne stop is indeed a water stop, and in any case it may not be at the station platform.

I think you may be right David, possibly a pathing/timing/recovery "stop", the next service train is due at 11.21 so if something went wrong it's going to mess up a very busy line. My mate who lives not too far from Ashton doesn't think you'd get a tanker down to the station bridge, he's going to try and have a look this evening if he get a chance. Thanks Harold.

Re: 1z31 Tangmere to Chester 2nd April (Via Standedge now)?

Ashton is a well known water stop, and yes it is downhill there (after climbing the east side of Standedge):banplease: . RTC's contracted TOC used it every summer Friday in 2009 and I even ran their staff from there to Staly to get home. I'm such an unhelpful fellow :car:

Horbury to Chester is probably just too far for safety, so, with the climbing over, a splash and dash will no doubt do it in comfort. As I have said time and again - you don't take chances on the modern railway and this is a way of not taking chances. (especially when an on site survey takes care of currently on site building works - now say thank you, Nigel!)

Ashton has been used many times as a water stop in a westerly direction but I cannot recall if watering is done from a tanker or a hydrant. The loco stops mid platform with the bulk of the train off the platform trailing to the east.
