Does anyone know of any published plans for this gauge apart from the "Priest" types at the south downs railway. There are lots of steam engines in existence but not much data that is easily accessible.

Bassett Lowke published plans for a 10 1/4 Ryal Scot in the late 1950's . early 1960's. There are some still around and I have a nearly complete set. We also have others at Stapleford. Neil Simpkins drew me up a set of plans for a Duchess in 10 1/4 about 10 years ago. Still not built though!

Given that the Bolebroke Castle and Lakes Railway is entirely 7 1/4" gauge, I'm not sure that any of their rolling stock ought to be in this list...

On the other hand, there is a 10 1/4" gauge Royal Scot that resides at the Statfold Barn Railway, in their museum. Not sure if its a Bassett Lowke or not, but I'll find out and let you know.

I think there may now also be a second steam loco at Newby Hall and anybody know what happened to the rather splended Nord 4-6-2 that was at Stapleford for a few years. I think it was a 90's built Colby.

Thanks for all the replies. It was actually drawings i was after as a part of the effort to re launch the 10.25 inch gauge railway society. See the separate thread and the website http://www.ten-and-a-quarter-railway-society.co.uk/ .
We want to help people to build railways and rolling stock. However its much easier if you are following a drawing than starting from scratch. There is a very good list of extant miniature locomotives and their locations on the Yahoo miniature railway group. It covers other gauges as well.

    oops, you are correct John.
    Now amended.
I may join the miniature Yahoo group. I hope they won't mind me asking lots of questions!

It was built by a member (Mr R Underwood) circa 1996? Prior to being at Barry Island, the line was located at the (sadly missed) Welsh Industrial and Maritime Museum at Cardiff Docks.

Maxitrak are re rerealising all of the Henry Greenly archive drawings, these include a set of drawings for the 10 1/4" Royal Scot - it would be nice if someone could persuade them into doing the castings as well!

The W&W is rather good, facilities are limited but its not over developed.
A new engine is on the way soon

It's a lovely little line well worth a visit. A friend Commander (RN RTD) Roy Francics owns it. Norfolk Hero really pounds the steep gradients, you can really hear that beasty working.

On a personal note: I would love to know what the Stapleford Berkshires and Niagra would do out on the W&W

Certainly an interesting idea Owen, I wonder how they would manage, would be interesting to see how they would cope?

The Beyer-Garratt is by no means at full stretch with a full load on the W&W, you can her working of course on the lines steep gradients one of which if I remember correctly is 1 in 42 and 1 in 38 at one point due to subsidence over the many years the line past since the line was originally built as a standard gauge holiday line. The loco is no means stretched, the loco has plenty of power in reserve and jogs along very nicely.

If anyone can get to that part of the world, the line is well worth a visit and worth getting a ticket to ride. A hidden and little known gem on the Norfolk coast, most enthusiasts pass by it on the main coastal road without a second glance, little do they know what a great little railway they are missing.

Don't forget that Joe Nemeth has just completed a 14xx to his own design for Bob Symes. At the start of the project he indicated that these drawings and castings and boiler design would be available to anyone else interested.

His website and newly completed 14xx can be found here. http://www.joenemethengineeringltd.com/

    Hope this helps

... also visit the Wells Harbour line, same gauge. To finish off, sit on the quay eating fish n chips bought from the adjacent chip shop. Bliss.
