It has, had it from Exeter with Kingfisher a few years ago, had the full Golden Arrow kit on that day if it narrows it down.

Virtually all of the noise from 34046 in the first clip, and the reverse on Hemerdon, which seemed to be taken rather slowly.

Lost a few minutes to Honiton. If it is Tangy on her own I do hope she has not turned into Mr Hyde after yesterdays Dr Jekyll running.

PS. Copyright of the Jekyll/Hyde comparison belongs to someone else here on Nat Pres who made the comment over the weekend. Can't find who it was!

Pleased to see it make it up to Exeter Central ok. Rather apt that it was a few mins late off St Davids too. Clearly the Western signalman was holding the road for a Plymouth bound express before allowing the southern train to cross the lines and go up the cliff railway to Central ;)

Was please to see the train make it up to Central ok though, hopefully with no diesel in sight there will be a good run back to London now!

Brilliant comment! Nothing has changed since the very first ACE and long before that. ;)

Oh strewth, I wanted to be working flat out on my Owl book, summarising 220 A4 pages of breeding season field notes from 7 trips to Scotland this year. And I just can't help myself in watching events unfold on this up train to London.

With no info from the train yet I'd guess it is Tangy with no diesel assistance. But it looks like she is struggling unless there are some out of course checks as she was nearly ten late into Chard, according to RTT. And has left there 6 late on an impossible timing to passing Hewish, 5½ mins from the start for nearly 5½ miles! That would equal my fastest ever start with steam, (I think). An 012 German pacific on 5 cars and downhill, reaching around 86 mph. But this is all uphill, some at 1/120. But the timings seem much easier nearer to Gillingham.

Quite a mystery to me at present. If she has 12 cars and no diesel as well to pull she should handle that load fine IF in the same condition as yesterday evening. The 09.00 ex Waterloo was often 12 and in my experience could be any of the three types of Bulleids. That had starts from Templecombe and Seaton Junction. Both severe climbs just about right from the platform.

Update. Yes, lost nearly 5 mins to Crewkerne, but took about what I would expect for a Light Pacific on 12 cars for that section starting from Chard, if RTT is accurate.

Observing from a point a hundred yards below Exeter Central. 34067 emerged from the tunnel sounding good and with the sanders on, but speed tending to fall away. 34046 tender first bringing up the rear and only five beats out of six - which wasn't helping matters. A very close thing.

34067 + coaches subsequently departed Exeter Central unassisted.

In the first clip, 5029 dominated in the distant shots but appears to have been shut off before they reached the camera. All sounds good !

....and possibly cautioned past a defective level crossing just east of Axminster as the following train was.

You can clearly hear the changeover from the GWR loco to 34046 at 0.41 seconds!

Back to Tangy, not looking good. Getting later and later, and currently on the climb to MP 113½. A stiff climb in parts too. But what I have no knowledge of at all is what the signalling is down there since the line was destroyed by singling. And if it is possible there are checks still arising from delays caused by the level crossing issue mentioned above. Or if there are RTT problems today as well. At 16.53 it has reported it at platform at Gillingham 17.01! Changed at 16.56 to approaching.

21 late approaching Gillingham. But is it following a SWT train?

If not then the Yeti may be right. Do we know who is driving? Big Al are you there? Tell us please.

    gricerdon,

no I've just edited that last to make it clearer - I hope.

The LC at Broom was advised as being defective, although as the up SWT passed it the barriers were (correctly) down. It may have been the crossing lights defective. The SWT (15.25 from Exeter) was a few minutes extra at Sherborne waiting clear.

34067, notwithstanding the above, now looks (from RTT ) to be losing time in running. But should recover that by the time the ACE leaves Gillingham.

So just for the record....we start out of Honiton and climb a mile and half
of 1 in 90 to the summit going into the tunnel at 23. This is the loco that West Coast didn't trust (I assume that was the issue) to get us down to Exeter unassisted. If this makes sense to anyone then please explain.
By the way Pete Roberts has Tangmere well under control. Currently in Gillingham after some slow running near Broom Crossing due to barrier issues.

Any more detail Al? But that start from Honiton sounds good.

But as I did mention above there was a least one totally impossible timing out of Chard. By several minutes.
