I completely understand the cost constraints, and certainly don't wish for the railway to go all-out and spend a fortune on a loco when the weather over the four days might be awful! I was just (I guess) trying to highlight a point that it seems as though locos are only painted in brunswick or GWR green, or just black. For me, the gala with 828 sticks out purely because of its unusual livery - it was a firm favourite with those visiting, and I believe it drew people that normally wouldn't have visited before. For me, if a loco was available in a livery away from the norm, i'd try as hard as possible to get it here.

Met 1 was nice, but it didnt really work in that it was concentrated for pretty much all of the gala to the north end only. I made reference to both crimson and apple green locos, as its often the case that locos matching the LNER set or the LMS set seem to pull in the biggest crowds, since these differ from those commonly seen on the SVR. The crab would be nice, but surely it makes more sense for it to wait to visit when 2968 is back in steam again?

I thought he said last 2 1/2 years? Didnt the N2 visit in 2009? Also, Bittern visited in 2012, which is just inside the 2 1/2 years, so I believe the gent is pretty much correct in his assertion. Either way, you're having to go back to Spring 2012...

Just my opinion, but the sight of 60007 on the teak set is probably my fondest memory I have of the SVR. It was totally out of place, but it looked fantastic!

Timetables (both public and working) will be available in early September according to the SVR website.

I have a vision of the M7 on a short LMS set topping topping Eardington!

Think more 3 blood and custard mark ones with potentially the southern pmv. Would much rather see 73129/ 34053 on the LMS set.

Or 13808... Leave BR locos to BR stock!
If the timetable going to be similar to last year hope the toplights get more use this time, as they were only given a runout Friday Night IIRC. Be nice to see them as 1 of the shuttle sets personally.

No the working timetable is an extra. If you go onto the online booking option they are available for purchase there along with the tickets.

Agreed, especially as the GW set as a whole had only one outing during this year's spring gala as well.

Indeed, the SVR has the stock to make many pre BR liveries look good enough with a matching train, but there's very little about currently that hasn't been done to death, is likely to come and is operational.

Can always stick 2857 on the GWR set if your desperate for some pre 1948 looks I guess, 88 doesn't really match anything though I guess the LMS set is the nearest, anyone for a quick repaint as 13808 ?.

As its Blue why not renumber it 97808 with TOPS data panel, full yellow smokebox and classic double arrow British Rail transfers on the tender?

Because it's Prussian Blue and doesn't fit the "modern" scenario you are thinking of - perhaps ?
