Filmed passing Chertsey, 19 minutes late due to a points failure at Longhedge.

George Mortimer would no doubt be proud of such a well turned out rake of Pullman cars

The British Pullman client group and the whole travelling experience demand rolling stock of this quality both externally and internally. I suspect that this level of maintenance comes at quite a price though. That said, as the charter heritage fleet is slowly being renovated (although more from the point of view of a lick of paint than any significant internal upgrading) I still look forward to the time when we see a rake of stock that really has been stripped down and rebuilt to give something that all passengers would be delighted to travel in. I understand completely that "First will come first" but hopefully a train of good quality Standard can't be far away. Every now and again you do stumble (and that's not the wrong word) over individual coaches that really shouldn't be in a rake.

I was up the Shard at the time CL was due to leave, so I was at the right side to try and catch it. Even with the Zoom Zooooooooooooomed to its max it was a no no shot even tho the points failure screwed my timings up- I saw a puff of smoke but that was all.

Did anyone spot the white disc Clan Line carried yesterday with the number '40' on it? This was to celebrate 40 years since her first main line steam outing in preservation on April 27th 1974.

That day was a trip from Waterloo to Westbury via Salisbury (and return) with Clan Line running from Basingstoke.

I was on that trip with my father - he lost his flat cap out of the window somewhere west of Salisbury.

Story was that '28's driver at Westbury told the inspector what to do with the Hymek that was lined up to bank the train up Scudamore Bank. As it turned out the safety valves were lifting by the time we got to the top - without the Hymek.

A BBC London TV News crew filmed the Clan Line team on both Friday and Saturday.

I understand there is a chance the report may appear in today's (Tuesday) 1330 and 1830 programmes, although the running order is, of course, always subject to change with items like this held over for another day.

Hopefully whenever the item is broadcast they may also choose to feature it on the BBC London website, giving those without Sky's regional news options the chance to get around the BBC iPlayer regional restrictions if you don't live in the London area:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/england/london/

Will update this post if I get any further indication in advance the report is going to go out today.

Update: Not featured in the 1330 bulletin or trailed for the 1830. So perhaps it has, indeed, been held over.

The Clan Line report has just been trailed for today's (Wednesday) 1330 BBC One London TV News bulletin and will obviously also follow on the main 1830 show. Will watch out for any web links on the BBC London page, aside from iPlayer.

I'm sure some experts will have a few quibbles here and there but the report got the message over with a nice spread of interviews and some decent footage.

You can watch it online at:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-27306471

A smart move to get the BBC to help with succession planning. It was also good to see Jim Clarke (Don Clarke's son) at the controls. A rare bit of succession planning from DBS as well!

Good that the BBC put it on their website so quickly allowing everyone in the UK to watch for an indefinite period. As well as tonight's main 18:30 BBC London News programme, there is always a chance (if no major breaking news stories) that the BBC News Channel might also feature the report in one of their "picks" from the best of today's regional news. From memory those reports usually appear some time between 7pm and 10pm, depending on what else is happening in the world.

A good clip. Very surprised to see a Brighton Belle car at 1:40 still in blue and grey.

Just a pity that on the website it's still referred to as 'the' Clan Line........

That was one of the "quibbles" I was expecting. But the "new" audience Clan Line's team was trying to reach won't have noticed ;-)
