Due to today's RMT industrial action affecting parts of the London Underground (i.e. the "tube strike") a number of heritage buses were in service providing additional capacity on certain routes.

I noted Ensign Routemasters in LT and London Country colours and their ex-Southend Daimler Fleetline (I think) on Route 38. Also at least one Routemaster (not sure of operator) on Route 29.

I guess/hope that they will be out again tomorrow (Wednesday 30th).

Every cloud has a silver lining and all that - enjoy them while you can!

They'll go on for ever (hopefully), the only thing that will kill them is a gas axe.:)

Got a wholly unexpected ride on RT 8 on an eastbound 15 from Trafalgar Square to Tower Hill on Wednesday late afternoon. Kept pace with everything else all the way.

Designed by LT, way back when, for London. Can still do the job today.

The crew seemed to be enjoying themselves too.

RT 8 is owned by a senior man in TFL so any excuse to have it out in use! (Peter Hendy I think?)
Having personally broken up several RMs, I can attest that a gas axe is not much good on aluminium. I preferred a petrol powered disc cutter and an air chisel as the weapons of choice.

Sad that at least one RT is misnamed as a Routemaster.
