Lovely day out today, great atmosphere. Had really good run with 9351 from BL to Watchet, what a lovely machine. Lydham Manor shone in black in the sun and looked stunning. The S&D Trusts newly restored coach also absolutely stunning, Washford a great place to stop off with 2 locomotives pottering around the yard. Sun, steam, fish, chip and mushy peas by the sea (you can take the boy out of the North, but can't take the North out of the boy) and back to London by 9.30.

I spent Sunday there - first time I've been to the WSR for about 10 years and very impressed with the whole set-up. As noted Minehead is clean and tidy and impressive - but that goes for all the stations, even Watchet which I remember as a bit of a dump creates a really good impression now. It's also the first heritage railway I can remember visiting with no rotting lines of diesels, coaches and waggons on show.

As it was the last day, the trains were not over full but all seemed to carry a respectable load, and the number of families travelling in the wonderful weather was impressive. The line was doing what it used to do - take families to the seaside!

Just like to say thanks to the WSR guys for an absolutely fantastic event. We had a great time with 7822, which seemed to just have the edge over the Manors going off reports from those who crewed her. Great to catch up with the 7812 guys again, and I'll no doubt see some of them on Friday.

Only thing I'd have liked to see was a bit more variety in the DH, for it was only 12/22 or 12/27. Been nice to have seen 27/28 together at least, with even 9351 and a Manor paired up but as there just minor gripes don't take them too hard. We were made to feel very welcome by Merv and the guys at Bishops Lydeard and we've come away with only positive things to say about the WSR guys and the event as a whole. Is the aim now for 5 manors with 7802/20 due out in the not so distant future?? (27 not got long left has it?)

  12. Thanks to many contributors there are now 210 images covering all four days of the Gala now online at www.wsr.org.uk (go to Galleries for links to Gala pages by day) and there are yet more images coming in...

The organisation of an event like this never fails to impress. Hundreds of people involved. Well done, you lot.

I just want to second all the comments on here. I came down for all 4 days and enjoyed every minute of it, this event was top class and the line up of locos was impressive, I personally would have liked to have seen more in terms of freight traffic but that is just me getting greedy. Hopefully I will make it back down for the spring gala.
