Linda fans will be pleased to know that it is currently rostered to double head the 11:40 and 16:00 departures next Monday with Lyd. Then will work the 18:20 departure on it's own on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Obviously subject to the all usual disclaimers.

" Advanced bookings are now being taken for the ‘Welsh Highland : Great & Small’ Event which is taking place 6th – 8th September. The souvenir guide is at the printers and should be available by the end of this week. We have supplemented the WHR fleet with two visiting locos - ‘Harrogate’ and ‘Minas de Aller No.2’ from Statfold Barn - plus ‘Prince’, ‘Palmerston’ and ‘Lilla’ from the Ffestiniog Railway. Dinas will host a varied selection of impressive model railway layouts. There are also some interesting freight/mixed trains planned - making use of the new wagons that arrived earlier in the year and the newly-refurbished SAR Brake Van.

The event is also being advertised locally as a ‘Dinas Open Day and Model Railway Show’. It is a good opportunity to invite local people to come and see what we do and have a bit of fun too. There is a café/real-ale bar/shop in the goods shed and there will be hot food from Blas Môn with hog roast, burgers and chips.

Our friends at the Snowdonia Parc in Waunfawr are complementing the event with a mini beer festival throughout the weekend. Food is served from 11:00 each day and there will be 13 different ales on the pumps.

In addition to the advertised opening hours, Dinas is also open on the Friday evening to holders of Event Two-Day Rover tickets and also to WHRS members (for a small donation). Some of the layouts will be operating until 19:30 and local group, Amser, will be playing from 19:00 until 21:00. The bar will be open throughout the evening, as will the hot food van. Our exhibitors have been invited to join us and some have brought their layouts a long way to join in the event so I hope this will be a convivial evening with time for a chat and a pint.

For more information about the weekend, visit http://www.festrail.co.uk/superpower/

I look forward to seeing you next month,

    Clare Britton "

Will there be opportunity for night photography at Dinas on the Friday evening?

There are no plans for an official 'Night-glow' photography event.

However, this does not prevent ticket holders taking photographs around Dinas station and yard during the evening.

    And this morning at Bontnewydd:
    K1.JPG

Good to see her in service, and an unexpected surprise when I turned up at Caernarfon this morning. Today has been the first day of the Welsh Highland Great and Small, and I have to say I've been impressed. In the past I've felt a bit short changed on the Friday at these events (the only day I can get to) but this one seems very well organised and advertised - and interesting as well.

    Thank you guys!

Good to see the K1 back in action. Perhaps she will be allowed to work (at quieter times) on her own, on the regular service?

The Huntley Archives has uploaded a short 1930s era film of the WHR on Youtube with a cut down Russell. At the end of the film is an England loco (Welsh Pony?) and a double engine.

Is three-day rover only valid between Porthmadog and Blaeanu or is it valid up the Welsh Highland as well?
