1" bigger diameter in the bore of an un-rebuilt Patriot for starters.

Where is a drawing when you really need one - or two?

If the piston and valve centres are identical you might get away with a revised cylinder liner. But if a new cylinder were to be required, then as we now know that polystyrene one off patterns work and offer a substantial cost saving the delay in addressing the need for a replacement might prove less financially damaging than it would have done.

Haven't managed to get details of who, but at the time Bob Meanley said all preserved Jubes have dodgy inside cylinders and suggested clubbing together for new castings, very sensible, shame it didn't happen.

I think you could say he's 'qualified'. :)

Thank heavens for standard tank, aw come on its only an inch !
Is that dodgy full stop do you think or just dodgy compared to a Great western build.;)

How long before theres a digital printer big enough to output patterns of this kind of size...

All I know about Great Western builds is that they, invariably, have too many lubrication points.

BEWARE OF THE SPARKS - GROMMIT'S GRINDING HIS AXE AGAIN!!!!!

Just what is it that causes you to have a go at discrediting Mr Oliver's consortium everytime they are mentioned??
I'm sure that the man responsible for taking Leander from a Barry wreck and returning her to steam would either have had such knowledge himself or access to the opinions of suitably qualified personel.
How do you know that there wasn't anybody suitably qualified and able to make such evaluations???

Unless my memory is at fault, Leander was initially restored at A BR works, just as 4588 was at Swindon.

Well lets hope 45699 does not require a new middle cylinder casting, rather some modern technique repair, and is soon back on the main line again. I am sure Carnforth will have made a reasoned judgement during the overhaul, of what after all was a very far gone Barry wreck.

..and presumably the work required was somewhat less than some of the doom-mongers on here were predicting.
