Not all "old fogeys" are whingers - but we do have standards and are pleased to see modern main line steam locomotives rising to meet them. :);)

When 46115 was paired with 46106 in the 1960s on diverted London - Manchester services into St Pancras [one each way] those 2 Scots were kept in very clean condition with gleaming paintwork-which makes the present condition of 46115 a pleasure to see and HEAR on the mainline. It has been described as a beast - and definitely one with a mighty roar !

We had a great day and certainly heard the Scot working hard on the return for quite a while back up 'the hill' amongst other sections from 2 coaches back, as did friends 8 coaches back.

Good reply Ralph, however I cannot think for one moment they do it just to get rid of seats.

They do it to make more money, either through a stake in the catering companies, or a reduction in costs depending upon the number of seats sold.

There has been a boom in such seats and 1st class and dining over the past 5 years say, or are the upper class seats making the trips now run by subsidising the standard seats???

I must stay yesterdays Waverley was a trip of 2 half's, Literally !! I was disappointed to see a diesel on the back when arriving at York. (How much rain do we need !!) This was the only Sunday I had available so jumped on board.

The northbound leg was uneventful with 46115 not really getting into her stride at all. I have to say I've never travelled up the S&C at such a speed. The diesel was doing it's far share of the work, in fact I have to say probably 60% of the work. :(

The return journey was completely opposite with 46115 doing most of the work. I have to say hats off to the driver for only using the diesel when really necessary. :)

I'd think twice about taking a trip with diesel assistance again. Oh wait, I'm booked on the Spa in a few weeks. Lets hope we need an Ark by then !!!

Nope - simply giving credit where credit is due ! Too many people whinge at WCRC when the f**k things up ( according to their presumed "better" way of doing things) but few critics seem to give due praise and respect when WCRC gets it right ! I don't have to butter up the "Carnforth Mafia" - as you call them - but in the interests of fairness I like to give credit where it's due !

Many enthusiasts seem to forget that WCRC is a commercial business run for profit by someone who supports main line steam running but the business is not run FOR enthusiasts although it may be run BY enthusiasts.

Not certain, but I think 46115 is the only serviceable WCRC loco left at York ATM. A post in the LE moves thread suggests 45699 was expected back at Carnforth today, and 48151 returned earlier in the week.

You should probably expect DL assistance, in which case it will be a nice surprise if the DL is left behind or only gives minimal assistance.

48151 is back at York, so theoretically available for the Waverley, but I would still expect it to be 46115. Will definitely have a diesel, though quite where is anybody's guess!
