There are a couple of typos on the TT, they have occurred when transcribing from the WTT to the public TT. D335 comes off the train at Bury at 18:33 and 70013 takes 1T57 on its own from Bury to Rawtenstall. I shall correct these later tonight and hopefully get the corrected version uploaded tomorrow.

Yes there are a some light engine moves.

How does Sapper get back to Bury from Rammy on Saturday, not shown?

    Is shown on Sunday?

    Many thanks in advance

That's one of the other typos! On the rear of 2E24, 16:35 ex Rams.

Comes of doing it late on a Sunday evening after sorting out the incoming and outgoing moves for the Black 5s and getting them a decent run during the time they are on the railway.

No I do not currently volunteer
    I'll second that.
Will a WTT including the light engine movements be available on the day?
    Cheers,

would like to thank Richard, Phil and Neil of the 3p20 parcels group who have this morning "cleared" the East side of the line at Burrs for the early morning runpasts on Sunday. In order to avoid the worst of the heat/humidity they started at 0700hrs this morning and bearing in mind they all come from a distance a superb job.

70013 arrived, faces correct way (ta to the people who sorted that one) - for those not in the area, the Castleton triangle is not currently a triangle.
10 coach 1T57 put together in right livery/order, now to be split for the days running before coming together again on the Saturday evening.

Just on my way and the curse of Metrolink strikes again. Rail replacement buses from Piccadilly to Crumpsall over every speed bump and pothole they can find.

Not ELR's fault obviously but what a bl***y nuisance

OK I'm here now and this is shaping into a really good gala. Lots of locos and formations, good weather, my first ride behind a Deltic...

Bit of a delay at Irwell Vale - 49395 having injector trouble, seems to be fixed now

Next stop the new bar at Rawtenstall

    Well done ELR

ELR remembers the Sixties 27 July 2013

The East Lancashire Railway produced a most welcome gala in midsummer to commemorate the end of steam on British Railways 45 years ago. The centrepiece of the event was to be the re-enactment of the Fifteen Guinea Special, the last steam train run by British Railways on 11 August 1968. Oliver Cromwell had arrived at Bury looking fine, with her absence of nameplates revealing the authentic painted-on name from the 1960s. However, the Riley Black fives struck unlucky, one having to be left at Carnforth on its way from Fort William, and the other suffering a temporary glitch on the Saturday afternoon.

So mostly what I saw during the two hours I could manage at Ramsbottom were the excellent Oliver, looking like a working loco rather than in exhibition condition, and a good selection of early BR express diesels, in various shades of green.

Then, down in Bury, the locos and stock gradually assembled for 1T57, but by the time it left 55 minutes late, my time had run out! Still, there is nothing wrong with a midsummer gala, and I was home before the heavens opened!

Despite the timetables bearing little resemblance to what actually took place (including 2 trains not even showing up on Sunday!), it was a good gala. The weather even played ball longer than it was forecast to. I hope the idea of a mixed traction gala catches on, I could really get used to more of this.

In the meantime, here are the videos I took, of the 1T57 recreation on Saturday 27th July (nearly an apt 57 minutes late) and the days action on Sunday 28th.

    Nice video Simon.

For a moment, when the Deltic went through, I thought your camera had lost some pixels. Then I realised that there were high viz tops on the track. How stupid of me.

Mixed day today with some good photo opportunities although I cannot deny when my alarm went at 545 to get over for the photo charter, one quick look out of a very wet bedroom window persuaded me to have lie in :) I could be wrong but I think the timetable was a little ambitious with the number of loco changes so timekeeping was erratic through the day and trains suddenly disappeared after 3! I'd have loved to have come on the Saturday but I was working, I do think its important to keep going until 5ish with some intensity rather than drop to one train an hour after 2pm. That said, it was a grand sight to be seen and despite getting very damp it was very enjoyable with lots of effort from the multitude of crews.
