Thanks. I have included the Bloomer in my list but I don't know where to stick it (in the progress pecking order that is) as I don't know what the aim of the project is. Is it to build a working replica or a static replica on a plinth (as already exists I think) of a "missing link" in British railway development? Images of it that I have seen show an almost complete loco so I guess I would have to put it "up front" with 2999 and the G5 but I'm not sure.

Wow! Thanks NDTSDN, What a difference it makes too. I take it you are happy for me to show these to an audience. Who do I credit them to, will " 6880 Society" be OK?

You'll have to message the 6880 website, as there has been concerns over copyright recently. Either that or use them and hope no-one discovers your theft!

Thanks. I will contact them. As someone who worked in media operations, I'm always mindful of the evils of copyright and the politeness (if nothing else) of crediting a photographer's work.

How far away do you think the cylinders will be cast?

From what I understand they are waiting to see what the quality of the casting for the inside cylinder is like for the patriot. Then if thats successful then they may be following us in using a polly pattern. Our cylinder is about 6-8 weeks away from being cast.

Due to the last minute failure of Black Prince this loco will no longer visiting the 'Closing the Gap' gala at Ruddington 4-6th May. However the good news is that 34007 Wadebridge will be joining 46521 to complete the lineup. The photo charter on the Friday morning should be exciting and we're all looking forward to recreating scenes from the 1948 locomotive exchanges next weekend. Tickets at www.6880.co.uk

Today is 10 Years of "The 6880 Betton Grange Society Ltd".

As part of the celebrations we are running a Birthday appeal to raise money for the spring hanger Rocking Washers & Pads. To contribute to this appeal, all you need to do is send "MAKE16 £10" to 70070 in a text message. We will receive the full donation from your text, which will help bring the sight of a working Grange closer to reality.

At the AGM the members were informed 2015 would be the earliest if there is to be a SSS4. But this is not guaranteed, as the board wants to concentrate on building 6880 for they reminded us we are a New Build Society not a Gala Organising Committee, which tbh we can't really argue with.

With the Patriot's recent successful use of a Polystyrene Pattern for the middle cylinder, our Engineering Man is now on the case to look at using this method for 6880's cylinder block which was originally quoted at £60k with the use of a traditional Wooden pattern.

The poly pattern thing could be a game changer for many projects that require complex and expensive castings.

Certainly could. We're hoping it'll more than half the cost of 6880's cylinders.
