Pretty much as the title to the thread says. Outbound journey is 5043 + Water Carrier non-stop from Birmingham Moor Street to Marylebone in (fingers crossed) under 2 hours!

Our own water-carrier is nearing completion. We plan to use it several times in 2013 to reduce the number of water-stops on lengthy journeys.

As for the Marylebone Flyer - we have a few seats still available in all classes. Don't find yourself reading Mr Notley's report and thinking "Damm! I should have been on that one!".

Sent my booking today. It was either this one of the RTC Atlantic Coast Express the next day, but I have more failth in Vintage Trains to deliver what they advertise.

Just hope that my request for seats on the milepost side can be met as its quite tiring to have to stand with all my gear for two hours now I am not in the first flush of youth.

Also intrigued to see what can be achieved on 11th May.

Yes, despite Southern roots, I'm also off to Brum and will leave the ACE as a 'maybe'.

For those that live in London or other places down-south, we are offering limited one-way fares from Birmingham to Marylebone on the non-stop bit only of £65. With an estimated 9:45 departure, it should be fairly easy to jump on Chiltern in the morning. We will have you back in London for noon!

Yes Ben, but Chiltern is not the best option. At present, you can get a £7.50 single from Euston to New Street. That's the way I'll be going.

But if it wasn't for Chiltern's co-operation and efforts, we wouldn't be running this trip at all.

A little loyalty and appreciation maybe?

Fair point, but the difference of £20 between Virgin and Chiltern in the single fare is money that will go to VT on the Halls trip. I suspect that Chiltern will notice loss of revenue less than VT might?

That does seem a little steep. I had £12.50 down in my notes for the one-way fare, but their website does show £27.40.

Leave it with me for a couple of days.

£27 something was what I payed to Marylebone last Sunday when booking in advance so their website is accurate (to rule out typo/error).

Times now on UKSteam - t0406a.htm

Interesting to see we are stopping at Princes Risborough on the return, I assume pathing whilst we wait for a fast behind us to overtake on the centre road.

Anyway, booked my chiltern tickets, £6 single from Wycombe, bargin!

    Regards

    James

Can anyone recommend a good place to see it come through London/Home Counties end? I hear that Denham used to be quite good but since remodelling it has been somewhat spoilt.

I recommend South Ruislip for the return, as you'll get 5043 working hard up the bank from Northolt and the junction to Greenford. Gerrards Cross looks a nice station as well...

That's if you can find anywhere to park!

AND Station Approach/Long Drive can get pretty clogged at that time of day!

There is a small car park almost opposite, BUT it is small and of course there is no guarantee of getting a space............................ and most of the side roads have parking restrictions

    Google Maps

You could also try West Ruislip, but again the local roads do have parking restrictions, and most likely it will be busy!

ME - I shall be seeing it elsewhere :biggrin1:

Where ever you choose to go - good luck!

Might not be too bad from the Tescos Tunnel. West Ruislip road bridge might be ok too.

I'm struggling to find anywhere to see this tomorrow. The forecast northerly wind isn't helping matters, plus the whole of the Chiltern line seems to be in a green tunnel!

On the outward, there's a reasonable climb from Princes Risborough to Saunderton, and another through High Wycombe station and on towards Beaconsfield.

For the return, there's a good footbridge near South Kenton - see this shot on YouTube from 2010. Saunderton is at the top of a climb on the return too.

Do you really need one!........................................................ :becky:

Anyway, here's hoping 5043 puts on a good show tomorrow!

And for those who are out and about tomorrow - don't forget the ECS moves to/from Southall as well - I know where I'm going for those

Seer Green would be good on the return as there's a street gradual climb up to beaconsfield, also the station still has a couple of period charms along with denham golf club. Wycombe on the outward might be good, with the staggered platforms you could position a camera where the subway ramp is and zoom in onto the over bridge and get a good pan of us going through the station.

I'll aim to update again on hear, if people don't have access to iPhones.... Androids etc pm me a mobile number and I can send texts, I don't mind as I have unlimited. Looking forward to tomorrow, girlfriends first experience of steam on the mainline after I took her to see ollie and tangmere at hitchin.

All the best for the crews prepping this run whilst I sit here with a London pride

Olton station for the outward shot and then the arrival back at Moor street. My only concern is he will be right up the backside of the 0954 to Marylebone until passing through Leamington.
