The engine was a forlorn wreck. I saw it atfarnforth aged 5 and tys aged 15. Smith is not going to take the p1ss and pretend its re-emergence was the engine it was supposed to donate parts to. He knows enough of what hes achieved and the significance of gslateas repair to fo her reemergence just Respect. I'm pretty sure we saw Leander and her sister will be ready soon

Surely the simple answer is for someone in the know to look at TOPS or whatever it called and see what Number was allocated to the booked path ?

I'm not a rivet counter but I can see that the smokebox doesn't look like Leander's pre-overhall

Smokeboxes get repaired or even replaced during major overhauls. Does anyone know what has been done to Leander's smokebox this time around? Just because it used to have a little brass valve on the side, doesn't necessarily mean it still has...

The sides of Leander's smokebox are full of rivets, as are the sides of her tender. This loco was completely devoid of both.

The same rivet-free loco seen again, prior to being sprayed red, on March 16th - http://www.flickr.com/photos/simonatkinson/8566207022/

Any more sensible suggestions like that, and this thread will have to be closed.

If Leander has been restored with a patched up, welded tender tank, instead of it's long term (as withdrawn) riveted tender.. then it's a sad loss.

Riveted tenders, imho make the locomotive look the age it is, welded tenders, whilst historically accurate as well, make the loco more modern looking, but in the longer term.. means rivet counters will be a dying breed... as there's less rivets to count and all the loco fleets start losing their historical identities due to modern economics.

A thread for rivets is here..

    http://railways.national-preservati...ing-rivets-thread-stanier-fowler-tenders.html

I still say however... theres only 1 working jubilee to date in 2013.. and it's one that hasnt worked before in preservation.

Just as an aside, do we happen to know--with any degree of authority--if the Tyseley people have any plans to overhaul 45593 in the forseeable future?

( The Tyseley Loco Works website just says "in need of a full overhaul." )

    I heard that too.

How long does scots guardsman have left?

Just thinking that in 5years we could have bahamas, galatea, leander, kolhapur, royal scot (surely it will be done) scots guardsman, and the unknown warrior? All lms 3 cylinder 4-6-0s in steam together? Carnforth open day? Lol

January 2008 was the first steaming of it's boiler, same week a 6100... thats 5 years gone already,
An LMS 3 cylinder gathering, would need to be around 2017 but that could be a great launch party for 45551..especially if that was used as a fund raiser now.

The Tender is one that belongs Steve Riley and was in for repair!! Went up today some thing was in steam but it was to well hidden to see properly!! Speaking to locals in the Museum at Carnforth station they think its the 8F as they have bee told that all the other locos are out of action!!

Could well be the 8F - it was on a charter yesterday and there's steam booked on another from Carnforth to Scarborough and back tomorrow.

Well, I think that we shall be seeing the 8f on all of the trips until at least May. I hope that most of the work and energy are going into getting Galatea onto the mainline. They Seem so close at the moment.

Along with the difference with the rivets. leander also has polished wheel rims and centers and also cylinder and valve covers.
