I have just worked out that there will be 17 (yes 17 folks) narrow gauge steam loco's in operation at the forthcoming open day......
    Is this a record?
Taking in to consideration that they are all owned by one person, it must be.

That must be a record. There will be even more combined of standard and NG locos operation at the Chemin de Fer Baie de Somme too, on 27/28 April CFBS - Fête de la Vapeur

Statfold must have the biggest working fleet in the country i know its not the biggest collection thats Mr Ramptons. How does it stand in world rankings?

"I know its not the biggest collection, that's Mr Rampton's"

Which is not accessible! The Sabero stock was imported in Feb 1969 - 44 years ago! Whilst I approve of the foundation of Collection X and the saving of locomotives that would otherwise served as razor blades (several times over), their isolation from the world seems pointless even if there has been no suitable place to display them. I am sure that, over that time, there would have been opportunities to display a few of them from time to time. I am getting to an age where I fear I shall never see them (and I'm not that much older than Peter Rampton).

A quick count of F&WHR locos shows 17 steam locos in running order, 5 steam locos awaiting restoration, plus 13 diesels and two tampers in running order.
    Plus Topsy in the pub.

For most of the season, we'll have five locos in steam every day.

Oh dear, I forgot no one is better than the F&WHR.......
The point I was trying to put was how often can you see 17 ng steam locos in steam in the same location at the same time, it will happen 3 times this year at Statfold, no mean feat!
Also they are all owned by one man, non of them are on loan.

Well, you - or someone else - did ask if it was a record.

    Andrew,
I asked if it was a record for having 17 steam engines, owned by one person, in steam at the same time. when did the F&WHR last have all 17 in steam at the same time?
Could you also list the 17 as I thought DLG was sulking in the shed on ambulance bogies

Well its still a great achievement that all the locos will be in steam, I know that nothing will be as good as the WHR/FR in some peoples opinion but let Statfolds beacon shine for one day at least as the place to be. For those who hav'nt been its is a great day out well worth the visit.

I used to go to all the Statfold open days, sometimes as a volunteer and realy enjoy them, unfortunately I can't make it to this one but I was wondering if it was possible to say which 17 locos will be in steam, providing none of them are being kept as a surprise of course. Thanks, Stuart.

Thanks for the reply so there's two engines there I haven't seen in steam and I agree Statfold always has a surprise for people, I must try and make one of your open days this year.

    Hi Henry,

Has anything been done to 'Josephine' or is she in ex-Durley condition?

    Hi Ben

The plan (at the moment!) is to run it "as is" for this year then it will go into the workshops, over winter, for a light overhaul and rebuilding back into its original Brazil condition.

    Cheers

I'm sure there are others that I've missed, and I may have a few of the statuses mixed up. Nor am I including Topsy, as a locomotive that could never run on the combined system, given it's 1' 8" gauge defecit.
