Please see my post #226 in this thread. Lyd has manual sanders and is more than powerful enough to handle all the winter trains solo (admittedly it's been away at Warley for a while), so why it hasn't (allowing the double engines a well earned rest after around 8,000 miles each during the main season) is something that even puzzles many of the loco department volunteers. We can handle a bit of slipping, it's all part of the fun!

Yes I know you posted there hence why I posted that question. I don't understand it or why the railway can't just fit some sanders to the doubles.

Does not look like poor adhesion to me, rather a test train being driven slowly so that the railway personnel on the trackside can make observations of vehicles as they pass. A slight bit of pick-up upon re-starting but the driver quickly caught it without any fuss or drama.

Now, this is what I call poor adhesion :) also proof that sanders are not always effective against leaf mulsh and the extra rolling resistance from flange contact on sharp reverse curves...

But a garrett at the top of a Porthmadog boarding house would be fine spot to photograph the Garratts!

I don't know the status of the Garratts you mention but it does grate on many of us that you keep on refering to them as garrets.

    Plaese read this.......

The top of a boarding house would be suitable...............

Isn't the word "struggling" slightly over the top, dosn't seem to be struggling at all !!

The video clip does not actually show the entire story, just the bit that I captured on my iPhone. Richard who was driving GELERT did a really good job in limiting any slips and keeping the train moving, there were several small slips as we moved slowly round the curve, maybe struggling is over the top, but it gives you an idea what to expect?

All the Garratts, including K1, will be out of service until March 23rd as there are no services on the WHR until then. Picture of 143 and 87 taken in Dinas shed 31/12/12 by Daniel Hull.

    What is it with you...?

Do you think that the Dinas fitters have been sitting around twiddling their thumbs for the past few weeks...?

Do you expect a blow by blow account of every locomotive overhaul...?

If so, you won't get it... just take it as read that matters are progressing as quickly as possible - and that further information will be provided as soon as it's worth doing so.

    Have I missed something.....

Looking at the pic kindly posed of the shed at Dinas I can see nice new lights and the right hand road is extended all the way to the back of the new part of the shed, and I presume all concreted in.

However, has the left hand road also been extended into the newly acquired part, or is 143 sat on castors ?? I thought the floor levels were a bit difficult on that side.

    Regards

    Peter

what is it with you? well im interested in railways and in this case the WHR and the ng16s.
Do you think that the Dinas fitters have been sitting around twiddling their thumbs for the past few weeks...? no hence why i asked what has happened as after seeing them over the summer getting 138 back together.
Do you expect a blow by blow account of every locomotive overhaul...? not a blow by blow but as im interested in the locomotive and i last knew the driving wheels had been dropped and taken to Blodge for Tyre turning.
Sorry for asking i just have the slight problem of living 100 miles away and not having a car or the time to get over there, im allowed to ask questions im not being rude or being intrusive. And i did ask earlyer on in the thread but some people seem to be taking the mickey out of how i spelt Garratt.
An to show how interested i am im spend 2 weeks in Blodge in may for work experience so i dont see the need at all for bluntness in your post
    thanks
    Patrick

I think the clue is in the title of this thread - those not working for the railways concerned, but interested in them ,like to keep up to date with aspects of those railways. It's not as if it's covered by the Official Secrets Act. The preservation community is usually a friendly place - lets keep it that way and make any refusal at least polite. Thankfully Andrew T responds with patience and tolerance which is good for the image of the two railways he represents.

On the 31st Lyd did take it solo. (I saw it pass from the hostel and later when working at Boston Lodge).

Why is there the need to be so rude and aggressive over a perfectly innocent inquiry and against someone who has only joined us recently ?
