Mid Norfolk - 'Multiple Matters' and through Norwich-Dereham trains - 20/21 October

    Next weekend (Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st October) sees the Mid Norfolk railway running their 'Multiple Matters' event. This will see all the operational home fleet DMU's operating in addition to 3-CIG unit hauled by 73 210. Full details including timetable are on the MNR website - Multiple Matters Weekend

    Highlights include the return to service of class 122 55009 (which first came to Dereham in December 1996 and was on an isolated piece of track until this year) and through trains from Norwich to Dereham, thanks to East Midlands Trains, who will be providing a class 158. The MNR's facebook page (Mid-Norfolk Railway | Facebook) notes that the tickets for the through services can be purchased on board the trains (Norwich to Wymondham Abbey £10 return/£5 single - travel onwards to Dereham requires MNR ticket).

    The through trains are the first 'turn up and go' services (as opposed to pre booked excursions) to run onto the MNR since the line was preserved, although not the first since BR closed the passenger service in 1969, as there was a 'Rail Day' in September 1981 that offered a similar type of service.

    The more observant will have spotted the 'minor' error in the thread title - it should read the 20/21 October!

    An excellent day out yesterday. The MetCams and (especially) the CIG brought back lots of memories.
    The wait at Thuxton on southbound trains for northbound ones is a good opportunity for photos.
