Saturday September 29th was Museum Day at the 600mm Ostra Sodermanlands Jarnvag in Sweden.
This is the day that everything that can run is run, and what a day!

There were over 50 arrivals and departures from Mariefred, and with constant shunting movements it
    was non-stop activity all day.

Five steam engines were scheduled to be in service, unfortunately Lessebo the Mallet was confined to
the shed with I think a boiler problem. The other 4 were running all day including double heading.
Also under repair was no 2 Vira (Motala 1901 2-4-2) her boiler I was told is being repaired in Swinden.
2 diesels, a very old battery electric loco and a very cute railcar completed the operating fleet.

Mariefred station and its surrounds is a good place to film/photo, and includes the branch to the lake station.
The staff are very friendly and were obviously enjoying themselves. There were no restrictions on access to
get the best shots. The new line extension to Taxinge-Nasby was open.

Mention must be made of their superb fleet of coaches. All beautifully restored, all dating from the late 19th
    and early 20th century.

My only complaint is I wish the event was spread over a few days.

    Engines in service:-

    Steam no4 KM Nelsson Motola520/1914 2-6-2
    no5 Hamra 0&K930/1902 Mallet
    no7 Dylta O&K7443/1918 0-4-2
    no8 Emsfors Hartman4290/1919 0-8-0

    Diesel no16 Aspa Deutz 1923? 0-6-0
    no21 Gaivoron a Russian TU4 1972 Bo-Bo

    Battery-electric no15 Garpen 1916 Asea

    Railbus 1937 Volvo

I look forward to next year and Lessebo.

Thanks for update on extension, presume there were steam boats from Stockholm at the pier as well ? Nice castle at Mariefred too, this is ng on a former sg branch line in very easy reach of Stockholm. Pity the season is so short there.

I'm not sure if the steam boat was operating,I didn't go down to the pier to check when it was due to arrive.I thought I might have heard it had it been in service that day.
    So I suspect it wasn't.
